Prologue
“Sorry, Natsuomi. I’m late.”
It was around dinnertime. As I was preparing my specialty karaage, I heard the sound of the front door being unlocked, which was followed by someone entering the room.
Her name is Yui Elijah Villiers. A seventeen-year-old high school student. She is a real princess, both in name and reality, although she is not a religious person whatsoever, she has a baptismal middle name because she comes from a devout Christian family of British aristocracy.
She has a pair of piercingly deep blue eyes and long, shiny black hair. Her skin is translucent white, and her eyelashes are noticeably long even from a distance. Her lips are elegantly thin and pinkish like a cherry blossom.
She has the innocence appropriate to her age as a high school student, but she has a neat face that is more beautiful than cute. She is a little tall for a girl, with slender limbs and a well-proportioned, slim body. Her calm demeanor is mature and graceful, and if she wasn’t wearing a uniform, she would look a little bit older.
In addition to her good looks, she has a cool appearance, and is referred to by her classmates as the “Sheltered Princess kuuderera” with admiration and awe, but only I know that this is just a selfish image of those who are around her, and that she actually really hates her nickname.
Yui, who came into the room, peeked at my hands while I was preparing dinner, as she put the duplicate key in her pocket.
“What’s for tonight’s dinner, …fried chicken?”
“That’s right. Because the chicken was on sale today.”
“Hmm, I love Natsuomi’s fried chicken, so I’m really looking forward to it.”
She looks proud of herself for answering correctly, and her big blue eyes narrow in a cute way.
The gap between her cool and cute sides makes her even more attractive, but I covered it up by coughing lightly to prevent her from realizing my embarrassment.
“I’m glad that you’re looking forward to it, but since you live next door, why don’t you at least change out from your uniform?”
“That’s okay, I just wanted to get here faster. I’ll go change if you want.”
“Well, I’m used to it. If it’s okay with you, then it’s fine.”
“Is there anything I could help you with? Something I can contribute?”
As Yui tilted her head looking me, the sweet scent of her long black hair swayed gently in the air.
The kitchen of a single person’s apartment is not very spacious, so when we stand shoulder-to-shoulder in the kitchen, we naturally become closer to each other.
It would be nice to say that this distance is proof of Yui’s trust in me, but I’m still having a hard time getting used to the fact that Yui approaches me defenselessly.
With her long, beautiful hair hanging over her ears, Yui gave a small chuckle with an amused upward glance.
“What? Are you embarrassed?”
“Shut up. Wait at the table while I cook the fried chicken.”
“Hmm, okay. I’ll get the plates ready.”
I replied to Yui’s mischievous grin while turning my gaze away from her.
Yui put the dishes on the table as I had taught her, with familiarity.
The small table in my room was intended for only one person, so it was a little small for two people to use.
To solve this, Yui is thinking about creating a space where they can share a platter of side dishes, or put a tray on top of some assembled cardboard to use as a side table.
Watching her from the kitchen, I let out a small chuckle at the sight of Yui’s serious worry with her hand on her chin.
This has been my daily life these days.
In all the years of living alone in high school, it never occurred to me that I would have to take care of someone else, much less that such a cute and lovable classmate would come to my room every night.
After school, I and Yui would drop by the supermarket, shop for dinner, prepare dinner together in my room, then sit around the small dining table and eat dinner together while talking about trivial things. Before I knew it, this kind of life had become so natural and familiar to me that the frying sound of karaage made me smile.
“Natsuomi? What’s wrong?”
“Oh, no, it’s nothing, I just…”
Yui came peeking into the kitchen, holding a platter for two in her hands.
She tilts her head curiously and then immediately gives a gentle smile in a sly way.
“What’s wrong with you, Yui?”
“I’m just happy to see you enjoying yourself.”
She giggles with a smile that she’s been showing recently, and spreads out some sliced cabbage on a plate and places it on the top of the table.
I also put a pile of deep-fried and crispy karaage on top of it, while Yui’s lovely eyes shone and twinkled with happiness.
“Okay, let’s eat while it’s hot.”
“Yes, thanks again for the meal.”
I and Yui sat down at the table in a fixed position across from each other, and together with my hungry princess, we said “Itadakimasu” once again around the small dining table today.
A matching silver chain bracelet peeked out from the cuff on each of their left wrists, and the Swarovski on the end of the clasp glittered in rainbow colors.

I and Yui noticed it, and smiled at each other with a bit of embarrassment on our faces.
This is the usual scene of mine and Yui’s daily life, sharing dinner together every night.
It was a new everyday life for the two of us that came in the season of blooming cherry blossoms.
