“Yuuma.”
From the day we started dating, Suzuno started to call me by my first name.
Her gentle voice when she called my name always made me feel ticklish.
Every day, I’d wait for her to finish her practice and we’d always go home together, side by side.
It was currently winter and Setagaya’s residential area was decorated with bright lights as part of the town’s Christmas decorations. Those lights represent the twinkling stars, filling up the trees with its light. Santa and his reindeer waved at us as we passed by him.
The asphalt I stepped on felt softer than usual.
Everything was so bright that it felt unworldly.
It felt like a dream in which Suzuno and I both loved each other.
I wished this dream would never end.
A perfect dream where the shinigami’s curse would never be able to touch me.
While holding her bike, Suzuno was walking next to me.
“Since you’re a ‘hermit-like’ type, you might not know this, but normally, when you get into a relationship, you’d start to go on dates with your significant others on holidays.”
“‘Hermit-like’ type? What’s that?”
“A boy like you. Someone who’s still young but acts like an enlightened grandpa. I made up that word.”
“If that’s the case that means you’re dating a grandpa.”
“That means I’m a grandma. Well, I don’t mind that.”
Suzuno giggled.
“Then our first date should be on the porch, sipping some green tea.”
“Or we could go to Sugamo, the Harajuku for grandmas like me.”
“But, you know…” She said suddenly, her shoulders slumped a little.
“Wherever you take me, as long as it’s with you, I’m sure I’ll be happy.”
Wrapped around her neck was a white scarf. She shyly buried half of her face there.
…F**k.
I swore inwardly.
This was bad.
The shinigami was right.
I really need to stop being her lover. I should just be content to be a part of the crowds around her.
And yet…
Why are you so cute?
I could feel my cheeks relaxed whenever she was next to me.
I found myself thinking, “I will never let anyone else touch her.”
I’m the worst.
