The Happiness That The Shinigami Gave Me - V2 Chapter 8
Volume 2 Chapter 8
With the sound of the signal pistol, the relay started. I found my eyes following Suzuno’s figure as she ran.
She ran like the wind. Her long, slender legs showed off their full strength as they brought her away from the other classes’ competitors.
But, her face was expressionless.
It was probably because she hated being there.
Most likely, she didn’t even care whether her class won the relay or not.
Even so, she was still doing her job earnestly.
It made me realize once again, how graceful and cool she was.
“Do your best, Suzuno!”
I wanted to cheer for every step she took.
It was my dearest wish that came from the deepest part of my heart.
As expected, I truly loved her.
Even if I were to live a normal life, a life without my contract with the shinigami, I would definitely fall in love with her.
The shinigami told me that my life was a cursed one, but these feelings of mine were by no means a product of a cursed life.
Suddenly, Motoyama, who was standing in front of me, turned around and lightly hit me in the stomach.
“C’mon, Class Rep, stop cheering for the enemy!”
“Who cares about that.”
“I do! I know she’s your girlfriend, but this is the moment where you should put her aside for the sake of the class!”
“Huh?”
His words startled me.
“Girlfriend? Suzuno is just a friend!”
“Huh? You guys aren’t going out?”
“No? You think a girl like her would go out with someone like me?”
Even though I said it myself, it still felt depressing because it was the truth.
But, it seemed like Motoyama wasn’t convinced by my words. He shook his head repeatedly.
“Don’t you guys eat breakfast together every day? You guys are on a first-name basis too. If anything, it’s weird that you guys aren’t going out already.”
I almost bursted out into tears right then.
“How do you know about that?! Did you stalk me, Motoyama?!”
“Of course not. Everyone knows about it because of the rumors going around.”
No way. How did they know? Rumors were scary…
“So, you two really aren’t dating?”
“No, we are not.”
“Then, go confess your love already. Good luck.”
What was he even talking about?
There was no way that I’d ever do that.
“By the way, isn’t Natsuhara-san’s birthday coming up soon? You should confess to her then.”
Once again, his words startled me.
“How the hell do you know about her birthday?”
Motoyama shrugged his shoulders. Ah, right, he knew her since pre-school, didn’t he?
“It left an impression on me when I found out that she wasn’t born in summer despite her name being ‘Natsuhara.’” (T/N: 夏/natsu means summer.)
“Obviously? Natsuhara is her surname. Do you think all the Natsuharas in this world were born in summer?”
“Alright, it’s decided! I’ll be helping you confess to her on her birthday, Yuuma. I got your back, don’t worry.”
“What do you mean by that?! Don’t decide things on your own! Also, it’s almost your turn to run, so move your a** quickly!”
Hearing my words, Motoyama immediately started warming up. He changed gears quickly.
I let out a sigh.
There was no way that I could just confess to Suzuno.
Even if Suzuno were to accept my confession, it wouldn’t work out.
Clatter.
Suddenly, my ears picked up a distinct sound. The sound felt so close, as if it was echoed directly in my brain.
Clatter.
I could feel a shiver running down my spine. I could sense his gaze on me, the gaze that came from the depth of the abyss.
He was there.
He was watching me. The shinigami.
‘Dedicate your life to your fated girl.’
Got it. I knew that was the reason why I was still alive in the first place. I knew I’d be dying soon.
That was why…
I could never be Suzuno’s lover.
I would never let that outcome happen, no matter what.
