The Happiness That The Shinigami Gave Me - V2 Chapter 5
Volume 2 Chapter 5
With reluctance, I accepted my fate to be the class representative. Still, I tried to do my job as quietly as possible.
Doing too well or doing nothing, both weren’t options for me. Doing too well would make me stand out more than necessary, and not doing anything wouldn’t do any good to me. And so, I decided to just do the bare minimum and pass the year without being noticed by anyone.
This was how I spent my life in grade school and in the Yamaokas’ house. Based on past records, my plan was bound to go well, surely…
The first school event I had to go through was the sports festival. The assigned committee member for it was Motoyama.
“I’ll liven things up as a member of the committee! Help me out, Yuuma!”
That guy who trolled me and recommended me to become the class rep had settled his position as the mood maker of the class.

The day of the sports festival. It was a pleasant, sunny Saturday in early June. Many parents came to school.
Motoyama led the class’ cheering with a loud voice. He’d jump in excitement when he felt happy and stomp his feet when he was frustrated.
Everyone in class was caught in his momentum.
As I watched him, I realized how capable he was for the spot.
Or not, no way in hell I’d see him in a positive light like that.
Looking at his happy face made me feel nauseous.
Was he aware how hard the preparation for the festival was?
When deciding the members for each competition, I had to listen to everyone’s opinion so that they’d feel satisfied with everything. I had to keep coordinating with our homeroom teacher and other classes’ schedules to set up our practice’s schedule. I had to deal with people who skipped practice, asking them for their reason and persuading them to join in.
I was the one who did all that!
They probably made me do all those mundane tasks because they thought I didn’t need to do anything on D-Day.
“Oi, Yamaoka, what will happen to our relay? One of the members got injured earlier during the scavenger hunt…”
“Motoyama will fill in for him. I’ve already reported it.”
“Yamaoka-kun, we still have time before the next competition, right? Can I go cheer for the senpais?”
“Sure, just come back here after you’re done.”
“Oi, Yamaoka, come over here!”
Even Arasaka-sensei dumped some work on me!
Seriously, what the hell?!
I was supposed to only do the bare minimum, but why the hell did I have to work my a** off like this?!
This was all Motoyama’s fault! If he didn’t pull a fast one on me, I wouldn’t be living this messy life!
By lunchtime, I was already spent. My food was right in front of me, but I was too exhausted to care. Worst of all, the source of all evil, Motoyama, was sitting next to me while eating his fancy lunch.
“What’s wrong, Yuuma? Eat your lunch quickly so we can warm up! Let’s win the relay together!”
“F**k off. If you want to warm up, do it by yourself!”
“What the hell? Why are you acting like this?”
“Do half of my work then we can talk!”
He laughed at me.
“I knew that I did the right thing when I recommended you as the class rep.”
“F-F**k you! You recommended me so that you could stand out without doing any work, didn’t you?!”
“Oh, you just realized it?~”
I needed to stop. If I keep this up, I’d be exhausted both mentally and physically.
After finishing my lunch quickly, I left the field. There was still time; nobody would complain if I were to leave the field for a little while.
As I walked through the side of the school building to the backyard, the BGM faded away as I got further away from the field. That made me feel at ease.
The backyard was empty like usual. This place, filled with lush greenery, sandwiched between two buildings, was a place that seemed to be forgotten by the students.
In this place, I found Suzuno.
