“You, why did you become the class rep?”

Next morning. Suzuno surprised me with that question. From her tone and murderous gaze, she seemed to hate this development.

I understood the feelings of small critters being targeted by their predators now. I didn’t know why she was angry at me, though. 

In the first place, it was her fault that the teacher had his eyes on me. It was me who should be angry at her. Well, I say that, but I didn’t have enough guts to lash out at her.

“Why are you doing something that doesn’t suit you at all? Are you an idiot? What? Your friends recommended you? Just refuse it, it isn’t hard.”

“I’d refuse it if I could, but I couldn’t. Also, why are you the one who’s angry, Suzuno?”

Her cheeks reddened as she got even more furious.

“Of course I’m angry! I thought we’d be entering the environmental committee again this year! I went ahead and volunteered myself already!”

“Huh?”

“Jeez, what’s the point of me entering without you being there? I feel so stupid now.”

Her lips were upturned as she made a pout in the midst of her fury.

Oh no.

What should I do?

She’s so cute, I can’t!

“Sorry…If it makes you feel better, I thought about joining the committee with you at first. If only that dumb*ss didn’t recommend me…”
“Sure, sure whatever. Regardless of your presence, I’ll still do my job for that black committee properly. I’ll haunt you if I were to die of overwork.”

“Don’t say ominous things like that…”

I started to lose my patience, meanwhile she started to lose her temper.

“I’m kidding. I volunteered to be a member out of my own accord, I’ll do my job properly. Also, there’s no way that I’ll die from something as trivial as that.”

She let out a moan as she stretched her body.

“Still, it seems like I’ll live my life as a ‘loner’ in that committee. It feels depressing…”

“Sorry…”

“You don’t need to apologize, Yamaoka-kun.” She seemed to have regained her calmness when she said those words.

“Still, I can’t believe you became a class president. The role doesn’t suit you at all.”

“I know, right? I wanted to refuse, but Arasaka-sensei said…”

“Ah, I see. That person is hot blooded like that.”

She knew about that teacher more than I did as he was the advisor of the kendo club. The girl shrugged.

“That person tried to force me to look over the new members. Of course I refused it. I can’t even talk with other people properly, why did he make me do something like that?”

I groaned.

“But, you’re the ace of the kendo club, Suzuno. If you pass them your skills, they’d become better than they currently are.”

“You’re saying the same thing that hot-blooded person said.”

W-Whoops. Did his hot-bloodedness infect me somehow?

I made a horrified face at the thought of it. Suddenly, Suzuno curled her back. It was something that she didn’t normally do.

“Still, I can see your point. Honestly, I should try to change myself. I can’t keep being a ‘loner’ forever can I?”

“If that’s your wish, I’ll help you to fulfill it, Suzuno.”

After all, sooner or later, I’ll die in your place to protect you, Suzuno. I can’t stay with you forever.

But, if I were allowed to.

I’d love to stay by your side for as long as I can.

I want to see you graduate. If possible, I want to enter high school with you…
