The Happiness That The Shinigami Gave Me - V1 Chapter 13
Volume 1 Chapter 13
After consecutive holidays in May, the committee held their first meeting this year.
“Oh my, it’s Stalker-kun. We’re in the same committee? What a coincidence.”
It was after school. When she noticed me among the other environmental committe’s members, Natsuhara-san looked at me with a straight face. Seeing that, I laughed. Yes, I decided to join the same committee as her. I couldn’t argue against her calling me stalker because of this.
“Please take care of me, dear fellow member of the committee.”
“What fellow member? They forced me to join.”
She snorted before taking a seat beside me.
“Eh, is that so?”
“Does that mean you willingly volunteered to be a member? What a pushover. I feel sorry for you.”
“Actually, I just wanted to be in the same committee as you.”
She furrowed her brows, totally unamused.
“You live up to your name, Stalker-kun.”
“I told you that I’m your stalker, didn’t I?”
“Yes, yes. This is getting old really quickly.”
I nodded.
“Indeed. It’s getting old.”

When I returned to my classroom after the committee meeting, my classmate, Motoyama, approached me.
Our seats were close to each other because of our attendance numbers. He was the person I talked to the most in the classroom. Like his bright-colored hair, his personality was also bright and cheerful. He looked like someone who’d belong in the soccer club.
“Yuuma, I heard you were talking to Natsuhara-san from the neighboring class?!”
Amazing, how did he find out about that?
“Scary. Are you stalking me, Motoyama?”
He brushed off my joke and started talking rapidly.
“Of course not! Someone happened to see you talk to her and made a fuss about it. Hey, isn’t Natsuhara-san scary? I heard from the senpais that she slapped someone at the entrance ceremony and was dragged by the teachers. I heard she also beat up a third year who came to hit on her. He was a member of the basketball club and also quite popular, so it became a big deal…”
“Huh, those kinds of rumors exist?”
“You don’t know? It has been going for a while!”
It was exactly as Natsuhara-san said, then. It was only May, but everyone went all out to make all sorts of rumors about her.
“Amazing, everyone is paying attention to her, huh?”
“Rather than that… She’s just too pretty that she naturally stands out from the rest… It has always been like that…”
I tilted my head. It was true that she was pretty, but it had been like that for a while? How could he know about that?
“I’ve known her since pre-school.”
“Ah, you two are childhood friends.”
“Uh, not really? I know her, but we don’t talk to each other, you see…”
Even though they went to the same school since pre-school? Wow.
“I mean, she never really talked to anyone. Also, she was popular even in grade school.”
“Huh…”
Well, she was a scary girl. That death glare of her made me feel a chill on my spine.
“So, Yuuma, how did it feel to talk to her? She didn’t do anything to you, right?”
I gave him a thumbs-up.
“Well, I’m still alive. It seems like she has no interest in killing me either, so you don’t need to worry.”
“That’s unexpected… I shoulda tried my luck and talked to her…”
She had treated me like a fly, though.
“Anyway, you don’t go to your club, Motoyama? Doesn’t the soccer club have practice today?”
“Ahaha…”
Motoyama laughed heartily.
“You think I’m in the soccer club too? No, I’m in the brass band club. I play the clarinet.”
“Eh?”
“Well, you aren’t the only person who thinks that I’m in the soccer club.”
“S-Sorry.”
That was embarrassing. Sorry Motoyama, sorry the soccer club.
“It’s fine, it’s fine. Also, my brother said that it’s better for me if people think that I’m in the soccer club. He said that it’s easier to get into the higher caste or something.”
“I-Is that so?”
Motoyama nodded happily.
I didn’t understand what this whole caste thing meant or which caste he belonged to.
He seemed like an interesting guy, that was what I cared about.
