The Happiness That The Shinigami Gave Me - V1 Chapter 10
Volume 1 Chapter 10
The bench she was sitting on was a crude looking wooden bench. There were ivies and moss covering it, but their existence made her look like a goddess.
“It’s been a while, Kuroneko-chan. Here’s your milk.”
She pulled out a little plate from her bag. Her voice was unusually soft when she talked to the cat. Then, she poured some milk into the plate and put it in front of the cat. The cat then extended its tongue.
“Drink a lot.”
She smiled as she said that.
Ah, so that was how her smile looked.
I was fascinated by the sight. The girl in front of me looked different than the one who beat up someone at the entrance ceremony or the one who swung her shinai around with a determined expression.
‘You have to become her friend first.’
The shinigami’s words resounded in my heart.
Right. First, I had to strike up a conversation, otherwise nothing would actually happen. She was my fated girl, so I had to stay close to her to protect her.
“Um…”
I mustered my courage to step forward.
Natsuhara-san, who had been staring at the black cat, raised her face.
Our eyes met for the first time. I felt a jolt of electricity running through my body.
“G-Good morning!”
When I greeted her, her gaze turned icy and she replied me in a stern tone,
“What?”
Huh? She treated that black cat nicely, though?
I was frightened for a moment, but I knew that I couldn’t back down at this moment, so I pressed on.
“Good morning, um…”
Oh cr*p. I called her out because I felt that the mood was right, but now that I actually did it, I didn’t have anything to talk about.
She glared at me as if I was her enemy.
What should I do? I need to say something.
I have to make her my friend first.
After all, she’s my fated girl.
“Um, Natsuhara-san? Do you like cats?”
While I was struggling like this, the black cat kept licking the milk without any care in the world.
The girl sharpened her gaze and sent me a death glare.
“How did you know my name?”
I broke out in a cold sweat.
R-Right! Of course she would be on guard if I were to suddenly call her by her name like that!
“S-Sorry, I-I saw you at the entrance ceremony, and!—”
Ah. She smiled lightly.
“And what? You fell in love with me at first sight because of my face, so you looked up who I was and followed me here?”
“Uhh…”
Her words were half-correct. What should I say to her?
“In other words, you’re my stalker.”
I guess so, huh? I mean, that was a fair conclusion on her part.
I tried to think of something to leave her with a better impression of me, but to no avail.
What should I do? I was supposed to befriend her, not creep her out like this!
She giggled as she stared at me, who was standing there without a word.
“Whenever I’m alone, men always try to talk with me.They’d always tell me that I’m pretty or try to make me follow them around.”
“It’s stupid.” She spat those words out.
“They always judge me by my appearance and call out to me. Whenever I reject them, they’ll spread bad rumors about me. They’ll say how cocky I am or how I’m getting ahead of myself. They’ll call me a sl*t and stuff. They go that far even though it’s only been a month since school started.”
I was too surprised by those words to say anything to her.
“Are you one of those guys? Or are you a pest who came to me because you heard the rumor that I’m a sl*t?”
She stood up and looked down on me. Then, she mounted her bike and left.
I could only watch her back as she went away. I couldn’t say anything.
The black cat who was just drinking milk had disappeared before I noticed.
