The Happiness That The Shinigami Gave Me - V1 Chapter 1
Volume 1 Chapter 1
After meeting the strange man on that strange-looking train, I woke up in a hospital bed.
Later, I learned that they found me floating alone on the surface of the river. They immediately sent me to the emergency room, though the doctors expected me to never regain my consciousness.
That was why they were surprised after seeing me opening my eyes.
“It’s a miracle, I’ll say. The saying ‘Children belong to God’ must be true. There are times when common sense that applies to adults doesn’t apply to children and this is one of those times. God must’ve helped you, Yuuma-kun.”
The old nurse said that while letting out a soft laugh at me. Of course I couldn’t tell her that it was the shinigami who helped me. Aside from the ominous nature of the event, I doubt that she’d believe my words.
So, I decided to keep my deal with the afro shinigami to myself for the time being.
I was hospitalized for a short time for various tests. When I regained a bit of my physical strength, the doctor turned to face me with a serious face.
“This will come as a shock for you, but there’s something I have to tell you…it’s about your mother…”
My mom had been found dead.
I had expected that, so I wasn’t really surprised about it, but I felt lonely nonetheless.
Disregarding the beatings she gave me, the warmth of her hugs and the times we ate and laughed together were more precious than anything else I had ever received.
After that, I sat in a daze inside the hospital room. For the rest of the day, I only stared listlessly at the window.
For some reason, I couldn’t think about anything.
What would happen to me from now on, how would I live my life from now on…I couldn’t think about those even though I had to.
Maybe it was because of my young age; more likely, the shock from my mom’s death was affecting me more than I thought.
Because of her death, I was all alone in this world.
Only the loneliness enveloped my heart.
