The Happiness That The Shinigami Gave Me - Final Volume Chapter 4
Final Volume Chapter 4
“Here, Suzuno-san, I baked some cheesecakes today. Do you like cheesecakes?”
“U-Um… I-I love them…”
“Great!” My mother said while smiling. She then walked back to the kitchen and in no time at all, she returned with a cup of tea in her hand.
“What about some tea?”
“U-Um, t-thank you…”
We were in the dining room. Suzuno was sitting next to me, looking uncomfortable, probably because she was nervous.
This was an interesting situation we got ourselves into.
“My condolences that you had to go through all that. At least you’re safe now.”
My father said in a calm tone, but from his stiff back, it was clear that he was as nervous as Suzuno was.
“It’s thanks to Yuuma-kun… Thank you very much…”
Suzuno was about to lower her head, but I stopped her.
“No need to, just think of it as my way of thanking you for all the things you’ve done to me.”
“What are you talking about? You’re the one who—”
“No, you.”
“But…”
My parents saw our interaction with an amused expression.
Eventually my mother bursted out laughing.
“Suzuno-san, I think it’s correct to say that our Yuuma is indebted to you. Because ever since he became a middle schooler and met you, he’s changed for the better.”
“Back then, he was really reserved. He was smart, but he was so apathetic to his surroundings,” my mother added.
“We’re the ones who should be thankful to you, Suzuno-san.”
My father joined in with a smile.
“You did what we couldn’t do for years.”
Suzuno was at a loss, unsure how to respond to their words, so I stepped in and talked.
“Dad, Mom, there’s something I want to tell you…”
I stood up and the other three in the room watched me closely.
“As you’ve probably noticed, I’m dating Natsuhara-san— No, Suzuno.”
My parents nodded their heads.
“She’s a lovely girl.”
“Please take good care of our Yuuma.”
My parents said so to Suzuno.
But, I wasn’t done with my words yet.
“That’s why, I want to marry her, as soon as possible.”
Suzuno looked at me in surprise. I sent her a “What do you think?” with my eyes.
In response, her face turned bright red as she nodded slowly.
Then, I turned my gaze toward my parents once more.
“I’ve proposed to her already. Well, we can’t get married now because we’re still too young, but will you agree to our marriage when we get older?”
My parents seemed to be in shock as their mouths were hanging wide open.
It seemed like they needed a bit more time to take in my words. Eventually, my father responded,
“…I guess it’s normal for a couple who’ve been dating for a while to get married in the end…”
“But, why are you telling us about it this early?” he asked while scratching the back of his head. To his words, I answered with a firm tone.
“You have a point, but Suzuno’s circumstances are a little special… Her parents are…a unique case, to say the least… Anyway, she needs a new family, a real family, that’s why I’m bringing this up now, for our future…”
I could hear Suzuno’s sniffle.
“And, that’s the case with me too.”
I stared at the eyes of my parents, the people who raised me.
“I can still remember the time back when my late mother abused me. You two have been taking good care of me and I’m thankful for that. But I think if I want to move on from those painful memories, I have to try and start a new family of my own.”
I was worried. I’ve heard of cases where parental abuse victims turned out to abuse their own children as well, but…
“You two are my role models. I want to grow to be a wonderful parent like you two and…I want to save myself…”
Unlike those people, I had another parents, I had people who’d willingly guide me.
I would be fine, I was sure of it.
