I tried to speak but nothing came out of my mouth.

Schedules are set in seconds, and even these few seconds of communication right now would have delayed his schedule significantly.

“W-Wait, please wait! Otou-sama! I’m fine!”

“Are you sure? You’re not holding back, are you?”

“Yes… I’m fine.”

 

I never dreamt that my father would care about me so much ever before.

I’ve only had the impression that I was being treated with indifference for a long time.

 

So everything… was just a misunderstanding on my part?

 

“Good, speaking of which, what would you like for dinner next Saturday?”

“Ah…”

 

I forgot about it until he mentioned it. No, I was deliberately avoiding it but next saturday was my once in a month dinner with father.

I want to eat the same food as I did that time.

“Ah, O-Of course, sorry for calling you out of the blue.”

“No, it’s okay.”

 

There was one last thing I wanted to say.

 

“A-Ah, um. Otou-sama…”

“What is it?”

“I-I love you too, otou-sama.”

“Oh… Yes, thank you.”

“Y-Yes, see you at dinner.”

“Yeah, look forward to it.”

 

With that, I hung up the phone.

    Really liking Kaori’s character. Might be my fave so far (yeah my ojousama bias is also partially the reason). I can partially relate to her. Luckily my mom is not dead but my dad works in a farm and so he often was absent for work, since it is very tiring. At the same time i know he loves me and my brother since he made a lot of efforts for us, for example he had saved money in advance in case we went to university and always allowed us to pursue the career we wanted without forcing to something else. Parenting is complex, and people often categorise anime parents in either good or horrible. But reality is more complex, sometimes parents love us but because of work or because like all humans they are flawed it can come as like they don’t care about us. But it is understandable Tojouin doesn’t understand this since she is still a child and also compared to my situation hers Is much worse (plus i mean i am 21, she is 16. Ofc course i can understand more that often things are nuanced despite also having a lot to learn)
