Chapter 11
The Smell of Romantic Comedy

“Sharing an umbrella… your spring has finally come, huh?”
“Oh, shut up. What are you going to do if they heard you?”
“Eh? Well, with my body–”
“All right, drop dead.”
When I forced Yusuke to refrain from saying or doing anything with my full force chop, he screamed “Fuuuu…!” and held his head in pain.
Aikawa-san isn’t here right now, so it’s not a problem, but it would be very troublesome if our other classmates heard about it.
“Well, I don’t really know why she’s trying to get involved with me.”
“Eh? Are you serious? Isn’t it because she likes you?”
Yusuke said as if it was an obvious reason. I glared at him as he made fun of me, saying, “Man, you’re so popular~”
“Of course not. If anyone’s going to fall in love, it’s going to be with you rather than with me.”
“You’re always looking down on yourself, you know that?”
I asked him about this, but he’s not very helpful. If, hypothetically, Aikawa-san likes me, that would make me very happy.
But that is practically impossible.
I keep telling myself that, but the thought, “Maybe she likes me, after all” still flows through my mind.
It’s one of the downsides of being a growing teenager where you just assume things like that.
“I don’t think your face is as bad as you think. You just need to get your hair done and look crisp.”
“That sounds like sarcasm to me.”
It sounded like a compliment when Yusuke, a popular and handsome guy, said that to me.
He continued to praise me with a gentle smile on his face.
Ah~ I wonder how many girls have fallen for his handsome smile.
“Oh yeah, you’ve been training hard with your muscles, right?”
“Ugh…”
I couldn’t argue with him because he had hit the nail on the head. It was true that I wanted to be popular, but when my best friend was so popular, I couldn’t help but lose my confidence.
“Well, there are many girls who look at you from the inside. Like Aikawa-san.”
“S-Shut up…”
I feel ashamed of myself for reacting reflexively to the sudden mention of that name, even if only metaphorically. If I reacted to something like that, I’d be no different from the guys in my class who fell in love with the Silent Princess.
“Hmm~? Why are you blushing~?
“Oh, Shut up.”
I gave him another chop, got up from my chair and went out into the hallway to buy some juice from the vending machine on the first floor. Then, suddenly a stranger called out to me from behind.
“Hey, you’re Kurose-kun, right?”
For a moment I thought it was Aikawa-san, but I could swear it wasn’t because she never speaks. The tone of the voice was also different… So I wondered who it was?
“Huh? Moezono-san?”
“Y-Yeah… Do you have a minute?”
When I turned around, there was Moezono-san, holding her hands together, looking a little apologetic. If I remember correctly, her first name was Sakura.
She was short in height, had beautiful brown hair with a bob cut hairstyle. Her round, dull eyes are her charm points, and her face was as beautiful as Aikawa-san.
According to what I’ve seen everyday, her personality seems to be ladylike and a little reserved.
Even now, I think it’s normal for her to talk to a gloomy guy like me, but she’s talking to me in a friendly tone.
She was at the top of the class caste, and I often saw her talking with a group of girls in the hallway.
Being kind, attentive, and a beautiful girl, Moezono has quite a lot of followers in her class, and I’ve heard that there are many people who want to have a relationship with her.
Then with the gentle tone of her voice… she dropped a hell of a bomb.
“Umm… you and Aikawa-san are getting along, right? Do you know what’s her favourite food?”
“Ehh…?”
The question made me freeze up. Moezono-san was nervously playing with her hair, as if she was waiting for me to say something.
I’d like to play it off as long as I can, but I feel a little bad if I do.
Since she asked me so directly, I would have to make a sincere effort to answer his question
I had been ignoring the boys who asked me that, but her purpose seemed to be different. So, I gave a little warning and then whispered to her.
“I’m sure we get along reasonably well, but don’t spread it around, okay? I think her favorite foods are hamburgers and fruits. But I’m not sure, all right?”
“I see! T-Thank you!”
“Ooh…”
Maybe she wants to be friends with Aikawa-san? I thought so for a moment, but it seems I was right. She immediately took out a mechanical pencil and wrote something on her notepads.
Maybe I’ll get to see a yuri situation with a bunch of beautiful girls in the near future.[TLN: NICE.]
“Oh, and one last thing… is it all right?”
“Eh…? Sure.”
Moezono-san suddenly whispered. When I was puzzled by the sudden change in atmosphere, she said in an embarrassing tone with her face turning red.
“…D-Does Sato-kun… likes cookies?”
“Yusuke…? He said he likes sweets in general. But, I’m sure he loves chocolates the most.”
“R-Really? I-I understand!”
She took out the note again and said, “Thank you very much!” then walked away from me.
Ohh~ Yusuke was amazing after all. He was able to win Moezono over just by pairing up with her in PE class. It’s not fair to be so handsome!
“I’m starting to get sick of this…”
I walked downstairs, bought a black coffee that I couldn’t possibly drink, and chugged it down. After filling my spoiled mouth with the bitterness of the coffee, I went back up the stairs.
