Seven Demon Sword Princesses And Zero Knights - Chapter 2 Part 1
“…Hey, you. Was that serious?” Charlotte, who was leading Nacht down the school halls a little while after the incident at the entrance, suddenly asked, looking back at him.
“‘That’? What is the ‘that’ you’re talking about?” Nacht replied, puzzled. He was just wandering along behind her.
“Don’t be silly; it’s obvious. I’m talking about all that… absurd talk about obtaining all the Demon Swords and unifying the Academy,” Charlotte stated in a thorny tone, the tips of her lips tapered with discontent.
After Nacht’s declaration in front of the Academy’s main entrance, Charlotte invited Nacht into the school building to complete the transfer procedures despite the hostile stares of the surrounding students.
And now, after all that, she led him to his assigned class.
Of course, she didn’t want to help him. In the end, it was all about the payment and Jeremiah’s request.
(Still, at any rate, I’m forced to deal with this ridiculous stuff… Acting Principal, you knew he was this kind of person when you dumped his preparations on me, didn’t you?!)
Clearly, suddenly declaring war on all the students of the school was nothing short of insanity. And, of all people, it was a redhead doing just that.
He didn’t know anything about this school.
“Listen, tell you what, you shouldn’t get carried away just because you beat Waltham. This school is full of people with monstrous strength. He’s just one of the weaker ones at this school.”
“Hmph. I’m looking forward to it, then. I’ll be bored if I only have to deal with people at his level all the time.”
“You know…”
“But, that’s besides the point,” Nacht interrupted. “I haven’t learned your name yet. Tell me it.”
“Ah… of course. My name is Charlotte Adeliana Rune Ainsworth. I’ll be your guide until you get used to the Academy. Nice to meet you,” Charlotte introduced with a smile.
“Ah. You probably already know, but I’m Nacht. I’ll be in your care, Charlotte… But, well… You’re so pretty,” Nacht replied with a smile. He then proceeded to brazenly stare at Charlotte’s uniform.
As he was appreciating Charlotte’s slender yet ample body, she promptly put her hands on her hips with frustration.
“Hey, don’t just stare at me like that. Pay up,” she declared, irritated.
“…You’re charging money just because I looked at you?”
“Of course. I’m famous for my beauty. If I just allowed you to stare as much as you wanted, I’d lose my pride as a woman.”
“Heh. I’ll just secretly peek, then… Anyway, can I ask you about something else?”
“Oh. What is it? I’ll try to answer as long as it is within my knowledge…”
“Where are these ‘Demon Swordsman’? Like I said earlier, I want to fight them.”
“…”
Charlotte froze solid.
“You really were serious… How much do you know about the Demon Swordsman?” she replied with narrowed eyes but a blank expression.
“I don’t know much. Though, I know for sure that they’re the leaders of the students.”
Nacht glanced out the window in the hallway.
There were huge, fortified Academy buildings made of stone. In the courtyard, trees were in full leaf and birds landed on them, resting their wings.
“In the Academy, there are seven top class Demon Gear, known as the “Demon Swords”. They have been passed down from generation to generation and lent to the most outstanding students… And so, a Demon Swordsman is one who is bestowed with these Gear.”
Nacht returned his gaze to Charlotte.
“The Demon Swordsmen are always at odds with each other. They fight to conquer each other, thus dividing the Academy. So, in order to unify the academy, I’d have to beat them all. Also, according to the rules of the Academy, if I win against one of them, I can take possession of his or her Demon Sword… right?”
“…I see. So, you’re a little more than just an idiot. You’ve done your research. But, you should know that… unifying the school is a fool’s errand. It’s impossible,” Charlotte denounced scornfully.
“That’s not true. Once, some people managed to do it… yeah, the ‘Knights of the Blue Sky’, those guys,” Nacht replied with a grin.
“!” Charlotte gasped.
The Knights of the Blue Sky: warriors who once left legends in this academy… no, the continent.
They were said to have unified the Academy and saved the continent from destruction.
“…So, that’s what it is. You, by your own hands, are trying to create another legend.”
“Ah, well…hmm?”
Charlotte held out her opened hand in front of him, clearly expecting something.
“…What’s with your hand?”
“What? Money, of course. For the information. I told you what I know, but obviously, it can’t just be free. So, yes, 100,000 daryls for the information.”
“…”
Daryl was the name of the currency used in several nations and naturally, the Academy.
The lower amounts were paid in hard currency, and anything over a thousand daryls were paid in gold coins. 100,000 daryls was the equivalent of a month’s salary for the average person in the working class.
“You’re supposed to be my guide, right? You could’ve at least told me beforehand.”
“No, I couldn’t have. My only role as a guide is to help you get familiar with the Academy. Anything else is extra. That’s why, yes, you have to pay up.”
“…I see. However, I’m sorry. I don’t have any money on me. My funds got me this far, but I’ve used up most of them. I’ll pay you back once I make it big,” Nacht said bitterly.
“Alright, then. I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt this time, but don’t get ahead of yourself. In this school, strength is all that matters. If you are strong enough, you can make all the money you desire. Good luck with that,” Charlotte answered with a huge grin plastered on her face.
Then, her smile quickly disappeared.
“—The Demon Sword Princesses,” she muttered in a small voice.
“…What?” Nacht asked in a raised voice, confused.
Charlotte slowly turned her back to Nacht.
“When boys and girls were both given Demon Swords, they were indeed called Demon Swordsmen. But now it’s different. The seven wielders of the Demon Swords now are all girls. And, in addition… all of them are the princesses of various kingdoms, each being of a different race. That’s why they’re called…” she paused.
Then she slowly put her hand on the sword at her waist and announced.
“The Demon Sword Princesses.”
“The Demon Sword Princesses…”
“Yes. And… I’m one of them. As the princess of the human kingdom of Iluka, I was bestowed with one of the Demon Swords: the Limitless Sword ‘Avaritia.’”
Charlotte turned around to face Nacht, pulling her sword out of its sheath and thrusting it toward him.
At first glance, it seemed like an ordinary sword. In reality, it was a double-edged sword with straight blades.
In the next moment, however, Nacht sensed an enigmatic, mysterious presence, quickly backing away from Charlotte.
(…What’s with this girl…? There’s no way that’s just some ordinary magic…!)
His hair stood on end. Even Nacht, who doesn’t have any magic power, could feel that raging magic within her.
There was an oppressive power rising from it, warping the space around it.
Nacht’s instincts went wild, telling him to flee.
This sword is dangerous. It should not be fought against.
“…So, this is a Demon Sword… !” Nacht muttered in fascination, admiring the blade.
“Yep, Nacht. This is what you desire: supreme Demon Gear regalia that feeds on its wielder’s magic, granting the wielder great power. And if you’re going to fight Demon Princesses to obtain these Gear…”
Charlotte’s icy eyes pierced him from behind her blade.
“—We will be enemies. And you will be against me.”
