Ore wo Suki nano wa Omae dake ka yo - Chapter 7 Part 3
Chapter 7 Part 3
“You really are too kind for your own good.”
Pansy said after Sun-chan left the library.
“Let me remind you that your situation won’t change. Everyone in school will continue to antagonize you, the things that you’ve lost won’t come back. You had the chance to change your current situation, but you threw it away. Are you sure you’ll be satisfied with this?”
“I lost everything, huh?”
“You still have me.”
“I lost everything…”
I made sure to reject her advance promptly, but instead of feeling dejected, she looked happy.
What the hell is wrong with her?
“That kindness of yours is very charming.”
“Your exaggerated opinion of me is very gross.”
“Meanie.”
“By the way, why did you make me hide in that place? That place was horrible. Think about it a little more. I had a hard time trying to get out of there.”
There were other good hiding spots in the library.
But she went out of her way to hide me in the worst spot of them all. This girl really had a few screws loose.
“It’s a special seat. Don’t you like it?”
“I prefer a regular one, thank you very much.”
“As an insurance, I made sure to fill the regular seats. I’m glad that none of us got eaten in the end.”
Pansy said as she held the book, ‘The Wolf and the Seven Young Goats’ by Brothers Grimm. (T/N: It’s a folktale. Pansy’s previous words were related to the story. To summarize the story, the seven young goats were being enticed by a wolf and eventually six of them were eaten by it, save for the youngest one. Things happened and the mother goat somehow managed to get the six goats out of the wolf’s belly and replaced them with stones. Eventually, the wolf drowned after he fell down into a river when he tried to drink because of the stones in his belly.)
“I don’t get it.”
“We went through so much, but you still don’t understand me, Joro-kun?”
“To be honest, I made no effort to try to understand you.”
“What a meanie.”
“Rather than telling me about the obvious, you should apologize to me. You’re the reason why I’m in this mess in the first place.”
“I did that for a reason you know? I have my own circumstances.”
“What circumstances?”
“You said it before. If the news about this incident were to spread out, it would ultimately hurt Akino-senpai and Hinata-san. That’s why you told Oga-kun to not tell everyone the truth. What a beautiful self-sacrifice.”
“You made it as if I’m some kind of a tragic main character or something.”
“You are the main character in my life.”
“You are too young to pass on the role of the main character of your life to someone else. If you really have to do it, find someone else to pass it on.”
“Your rejection only made me love you even more~”
As she said those words, she stood up and approached me.
“Are you a masochist?!”
“I mean, you did all that to protect me, didn’t you?”
“What?! What are you—”
“Right now, everyone in school is your enemy. If they were to see me hanging around with you, there is a huge chance that I will become their enemy as well. You rejected me to protect me from that situation, didn’t you?”
Pansy gently pushed her index finger on my chest.
“This is why I love you.”
“This is why I hate you.”
She was a victim in this case, I just didn’t want her to get into any more troubles, but of course she interpreted my actions to her convenience.
Thinking about things positively was good and all, but you still need to keep that in moderation.
“Joro-kun.”
“What?”
“There’s one more thing that made me happy.”
While moving her index finger in circular motion, Pansy continued in a good mood.
“What?”
“Why did you ask me to go out with Oga-kun?”
“T-That’s… I-I just wanted to make Sun-chan happy…”
“Really? Is that all there’s to it?”
“Ugh! Y-Yes!”
“Lies.”
“Ugh…”
“It was true that you acted with Oga-kun’s best interest in mind. To do that, you decided that it would be best that he goes out with the best candidate around. So, since you asked me to go out with him, that meant…”
Pansy paused her words. It was only for a moment, but it felt like an eternity.
“You thought that I’m the best girl, right?”
“…Not really. The other two candidates were just too twisted to be a good girlfriend for him. You’re just a little better than the two of them.”
“Someone’s being shy.”
“Shut it! Stop nitpicking about every single thing that I did! Anyway, are we done now?!
“Yes, we’re done.”
“Alright, I’m going now!”
“Will you visit me again?”
I tried to move Pansy’s hand from my chest, but she quickly wrapped it around my hand.
“Of course. I have no reason to come here.”
“But, I want to see you.”
“I don’t.”
At the same time I said those words, I brushed her hand off.
“…I’ll miss you.”
She stared at her hand, unwilling to let go of the traces of my touch.
Then, she slowly turned her gaze to me.
“Please tell me your true feelings.”
“Ugh!”
“Will you really not come here anymore?”
“Why are you making me repeat myself?!”
Her gaze, filled with anxiety and anticipation, met with mine.
It was as if she was pleading with me to not leave her.
Perhaps she realized that I noticed her feelings. Her composure faltered as she started restlessly fiddling with her braids.
“I won’t come here again!”
But that wasn’t enough to make me do her biddings. I wasn’t naive enough to fall for that sh*t.
A lot of things happened between us, but the fact that I hated her wouldn’t change.
“I’ll have to do my best then.”
“Do whatever you want.”
“I will.”
It was obvious that she was up to something, but I didn’t care.
I was already at the bottom of the school caste, whatever she did, my position wouldn’t get any worse.
…Still, I’d better run from her as quickly as possible, just in case.
Since earlier, my instincts had been telling me to leave this place quickly. I’d probably get in danger if I were to stay here any longer.
“Bye, Pansy.”
“See you later, Joro-kun.”
I ignored the ominous words coming from her mouth and left the library.
Slamming the door shut, I gazed at the empty hallway before me.
Haah… I wonder what they’d do to me when I get back to the classroom.
So annoying. But, whatever…
Thinking about the future made me feel depressed, but I already made up my mind.
I guess I had to thank Pansy for everything.
She was the only person who stayed by my side from the beginning to the end.
Thank you, Pansy… Guess I’ll visit the library from time to time.
I thanked her in my mind once again and went back to the classroom.
