Ore wo Suki nano wa Omae dake ka yo - Chapter 3 Part 2
Chapter 3 – Part 2
…Tch. After school.
I really didn’t want to go there, but I had no choice but to go there.
As soon as homeroom ended, I immediately went to the student council room.
My homeroom teacher was sensible, so he always ended it early.
It ended earlier than the majority of other classes, so I could use this time to talk with Cosmos about my plan.
By the way, she always arrived at the council room first.
I didn’t know what kind of magic she used.
After knocking on the door, I heard a voice saying “Come in” from inside the room, so I opened the door.
See? She was there.
She slammed her note shut before smiling at me.
Trying to deceive me with that smile, huh? Fool me twice, shame on me!
“Hello, Joro-kun.”
“Hello, Prez.”
“Right, thanks for your time on Saturday. It was delightful.”
“No, no, I should be thanking you instead.”
Her smile reminded me of a goddess.
Too bad after what happened last Saturday, I became completely immune to it. If her smile was 100,000 volt, then I was the ground type she struck it with. (T/N: Pokemon reference. 100,000 volt is Pikachu’s signature move in the anime and in the game, ground type is immune to electric type attacks.)
“Prez, do you have time?”
“Mhm, I do. Until the meeting starts at least.”
Alright, let’s get on with it.
“I have something to tell you regarding the matter we talked about last Saturday.”
The moment I said that, her body froze.
Amazing. I thought she would never be fazed by anything, but those few words from me made her helpless like this.
She was a real maiden in love, huh? God, I wish I was the one she fell in love with.
“W-What is it? A-Are you sure it’s okay to talk about it here?”
She said that, but she already brought up her note. The girl was ready.
Since she seemed motivated, I decided to support her with all my power.
And if she ended up getting dumped anyway… Hehehe…
Whoops, no, let’s leave that thought for the future. For now, let’s focus on self-preservation first.
“There’s no one else here, so it should be okay.”
“R-Right! T-They won’t come until right before the meeting starts anyway!”
Exactly.
I only came here early normally because I wanted to be with Cosmos as long as possible. Other members didn’t share the same goal as me.
The earliest time they would stop by was around five minutes before the meeting started. In other words, we had plenty of time.
As expected of real mob characters, they could adjust to the situation well.
…Though, I’ve decided to be one of them starting from today.
“But first, I have to tell you something.”
“Hm?”
“Himawari has the same request as you, Prez.”
“What?”
The moment I told her this, she glared at me
Woah, scary! Seriously, she looked scary!
She exuded some kind of black aura. From now on, I’ll dub this version of Cosmos as Dark Cosmos.
I almost backed away after seeing that, but I couldn’t just run away. I was the one with the high ground here.
Unlike with Himawari, Cosmos wouldn’t be able to do anything without me.
“She invited me out on Sunday and she asked me about it then.”
“That brat… I knew it!”
This girl had the same reaction as Himawari, wow.
Girls were scary. Also, ‘brat?’ Dayum girl, I saw you in a new light now.
“That girl acted unnecessarily hostile toward me the other day when we went to visit the tennis club. Especially when I told her that we would be going to visit the baseball club. Also, remember the time when she hit you with that ball? That kind of behavior was the reason why I cut her club’s budget.”
“I-I see…”
Was she such a scary person? I really couldn’t afford to turn her into an enemy!
“In any case, I’m planning to cooperate with both of you.”
“W-What?! I thought you’re taking my side!”
What are you on about? Do you think I’ll automatically take your side just because you have such a desperate look on your face? Dream on.
“I am on your side, though? It’s just, I am also on Himawari’s side. That’s why I’ll help both of you equally. She’s still a precious childhood friend of mine, you know? I can’t just not help her. Also, you have to promise me that you won’t hold a grudge no matter who ended up winning Sun-chan’s heart. If you don’t promise me, I won’t help you.”
“Uu…”
“I’ve told Himawari the same thing and she already agreed. What about you, Prez?”
“If you say so…”
It seemed like I was giving her a choice, but there was really only one answer available for her.
If she were to refuse me here, I would just help Himawari out.
I wouldn’t lose anything if she were to refuse. Of course, she won’t do such a foolish thing.
“Ugh… Fine. I’ll be in your care.”
See?
“Alright, here’s our plan for the time being.”
“You’ve thought of a plan?!”
“Of course I have.”
“Thank you! It’s really reassuring to have you by my side!”
Stop grabbing my hand for every single little thing! I won’t feel anything even if you were to do that!
Hold it for another thirty minutes if you don’t believe me!
Firmly! Don’t let it go!
“Phew… So, what’s the plan?”
She immediately let my hand go! Ugh, a mob like me really couldn’t ask for much!
“Firstly, let’s start with your ‘impression,’ Prez.”
“Impression?”
“Yes. Normally, in cases like this, the first thing you should do is to let the other people get to know you. You and Sun-chan barely interact with each other aside from the matters regarding the council and his club. And so, to him, you’re just the ‘President’ and not a ‘girl’. Do you understand what I’m trying to say?”
“In other words, he thought of me as a serious senpai and nothing more. Is that what you’re trying to say?”
“Yes. That’s why we need to change that impression. We have to make him think of you as a ‘girl.’ That’s our plan for the time being.”
“W-Wow, you’re amazing…:
“To do that, you should try to go home with him, Prez. You might not like it, but I’ll accompany you guys. I’ve already made plans with him because I need to go somewhere, so you can just join us.”
“W-We’re going to start from there?! Rather than not liking it, it’s great that you’ll be accompanying us! If you were to leave me alone with him, I’d probably be too nervous to say something! Even then, I’m still not sure what I should say to him…”
Oi! I haven’t done talking yet, why were you writing on your note already?!
“There’s something that you need to take note of. Don’t leave the council room after we’re done with our meeting.”
“Should I ask him about his hobbies?… Huh? Will there be a problem if I were to leave the room?”
“Yes. The meeting ends at around 6, meanwhile the baseball club activities end at around 7. The thing is, the tennis club activities end somewhere between 6 and 7.”
Hearing that, Cosmos furrowed her brows. How perceptive.
“You understand what I’m trying to say? If you were to loiter around outside the council room, Himawari will definitely be suspicious. If this happens, she’ll definitely wait for Sun-chan’s club activity to end as well, ruining our plan. As long as she isn’t suspicious of you, she’ll just go home with the rest of her clubmates.”
“But, are you sure this is okay? Aren’t you supposed to help her out as well?”
“Prez, keep in mind that she and Sun-chan are classmates, they are together every day, all day long, so I can help her anytime I want. You have less time to be together with him, so I’ll dedicate my time after school to help you out. By the way, I won’t help either of you during lunch because I have a lot of things I need to do. But, if you want to approach him during that time, make sure to consult me first, got it?”
“Got it!”
In truth, I didn’t really have anything else to do during lunch.
I just didn’t want to end up wasting too much time taking care of other people’s love life.
Let me have some time alone during lunch, that was all I asked.
…Also, I had to say mostly the same thing twice, ugh.
Her reaction was similar to Himawari’s. I had a suspicion that they shared the same braincells.
Realizing that, I couldn’t help but feel anxious toward the future…
* * *
It was currently 7 pm. There was no one else inside the council room aside from me and Cosmos.
If it was a few days ago, I would be rejoicing over this situation, but right now, I was in no mood to rejoice over this.
Seeing Cosmos writing on her note with a happy expression just made me p*ssed off.
“Ah, I’m so nervous! Going home with Oga-kun… Just thinking about it already made me feel excited! R-Right, how should I greet him? Should I say ‘good evening,’ a simple ‘hello,’ or ‘spring is the herald of happiness, I wish you’re blessed with good health throughout this season?’ Which one do you think I should say?” (T/N: The last one is the kind of greeting they would use when writing letters.)
“…Definitely not the last one.”
“Really? I thought it would be polite to use that one…”
The problem was that it was too polite. Also, why did you feel the need to mention the season in your greetings?
“Hm?”
At that moment, my phone vibrated. Sun-chan called me.
“Ah, you’re done? …Mm, sure. I’ll meet at the school gate.”
After hanging up, I stood up and called out to Cosmos.
“Alright, let’s go.”
“A-Ah, okay! U-Um, Joro-kun, do I look weird?”
Cosmos tidied up her hair with both hands. There was a strained smile on her face. It was clear that she was nervous.
That was the face of a maiden-in-love. Back when she went out with me, she had a completely different smile…
“No. You look as pretty as usual.”
“I-I see! Thank you!”
I went out of my way to call her ‘pretty,’ but she completely ignored it.
If it was Sun-chan who said that, I bet she’d turn as red as a boiled octopus.
Whatever. I was a mob anyway. Tch.
* * *
We walked together to the school gate. Sun-chan was already there.
When he noticed us, he waved at us while smiling.
“Yo, Joro, what’s up?”
“Nothing much. Ah, before that…”
I tilted my body sideways, revealing the shy-looking Cosmos.
“Prez says she wants to come with us.”
Quick, say hello to him! Put that note away from your face!
“Spring is the herald of happiness, I wish you’re blessed with good health throughout this season!”
I told you to not use that one! What’s wrong with you?!
Stop bowing to him! Just act normal, please!
“Ah…”
A dull thud echoed in front of the school gate.
Because of her frantic movement when bowing, she dropped her note.
Her hands were probably shaking out of nervousness and made her note slip away from her grip.
We barely started and she had already messed up… Well, it was my job to turn this mess into an opportunity.
“Sorry, Sun-chan, can you pick up the note for her?”
“Sure! Here you go, President!”
“S-Sorry! A-Also, t-thank you…”
Again, I had two goals that I wanted to achieve by saying those words.
One, to create an opportunity for them to talk to each other.
Two, to make sure that I didn’t pick the note myself.
The first goal was self-explanatory. It would be good if they could start a nice and pleasant conversation from that opportunity. The second goal was to hammer the point that I wasn’t interested in her at all.
Another perfect follow up for me. Except that Cosmos was too flustered to do anything because of it.
“Uuu… S-Sorry for troubling you, Oga-kun…”
With her note in her hands, she blurted those words out with a small voice that I could barely hear.
…Well, I shoulda expected this. Anyway, Himawari had a huge advantage over her in this kind of situation.
The fact that they weren’t in the same year was enough of a detriment for her, let alone the fact that Cosmos was the student council president. In normal circumstances, Sun-chan wouldn’t be able to start a conversation with her so casually, let alone in the current situation where she looked ever so impatient. Anyway, if I were to give Himawari a 10 for her performance, I could only give Cosmos a 3.
…Seriously. Just use your beauty and seduce him like you did to me. It wasn’t that hard.
“So, will you come with us, Sun-chan?”
“Sure! Let’s go!”
Well, the amount of affection points I could gather today depended on your performance, Sun-chan.
Do your best, you two. I’ll do my best too, as a support.
* * *
I took both of them to a certain fast food chain.
It was that burger chain that had a big M logo. There was one near the station close to our school. (T/N: McDonalds.)
I sent them to secure our seats, meanwhile I ordered our food.
Alright, I managed to get those two some time together. I really hope that she could use this opportunity well so that I could go home quickly.
“Two colas and one iced tea. All M-sized, please.”
“Understood! Two colas and one iced tea, all M-sized!”
After receiving both our drinks and the cashier’s sales smile, I carried the tray over to where our seats were.
I took my time and walked slowly while I was at it so that they could spend more time together.
…Only to find out that they didn’t even talk to each other!
Sun-chan was averting his gaze away from Cosmos, probably because he was nervous from being together with her. Meanwhile Cosmos was being Cosmos, writing something in her note with a bright red face.
…Oh, no…
“Thanks for waiting, you two.”
As soon as I called out to them, the two of them turned their gazes toward me with sparkly eyes.
With those kinds of gazes, you’d think that I’m the messiah or something.
I placed the drinks in front of the two of them and sat next to Sun-chan.
This was to avoid any misunderstandings about my relationship with Cosmos.
Wasn’t it a clever move? I was perfect as a mob, wasn’t I? I was the one who said that, but it still felt sad somehow.
“Let’s get to business. Actually, I want to talk about Prez.”
““Huh?””
Both of them let out a dumb voice. See? You guys were a perfect match for each other.
Now, all you two need to do is to get to know each other better and become lovers quickly. Meanwhile, I’ll snatch Himawari for myself.
“Sun-chan, do you think Prez is a little intimidating?”
“A-Ah… Hm…”
He crossed his arms and started to think.
I knew that he thought of her as intimidating, he was just trying to figure out a better way to say it so that the girl in front of him wouldn’t feel offended.
Also, dear Cosmos. Stop staring at him with that hopeful look. Just accept the cold truth.
“If you don’t want to answer, it’s okay, you don’t need to.”
“No, I’ll say it or else I wouldn’t be a man! Yes! I do think that she is a little intimidating!”
Hearing those words coming out of his mouth, Cosmos instantly turned into a husk of a person.
To me, she looked hilarious, but those words must have dealt a huge amount of emotional damage to her.
Then, she started writing something in her note at a tremendous pace.
Poor girl. I guess she wasn’t ready to hear that cold truth, huh?
“I know, right? You aren’t the only one who thinks so, the other students also think the same way, especially the first years and the second years.”
“Well, her status as a third year is intimidating enough, I guess…”
“Mhm. That’s why I want to help her get rid of that image. To do that, I need your help, Sun-chan.”
“Huh? Why me?”
Because she liked you.
Of course I wouldn’t say that out loud.
“You get along well with everyone, don’t you? You’re the perfect kouhai for her to get along with. Think of it like this, if everyone were to see you getting along well with her, they’ll be less intimidated toward her presence. Also, there’s another problem with Prez, which is that her personality is quite stiff. I think you’re the best person to fix that side of her.”
“No way, surely there’s someone out there that’s better than me.”
“No, I don’t think so. You see, Sun-chan, you’re really good at making people laugh and feel at ease around you. You should be able to do the same with Prez. That’s why I think you’re the best person for the job.”
“Somehow I feel embarrassed when you praise me with a straight face like that, Joro.”
Even after I praised him, my words weren’t going through his thick skull.
No, calm down, me. Don’t lose to those negative emotions! Be calm!
I’m just a mob… I’m just a mob… Okay, I calmed myself down.
“Anyway, if you don’t mind, Sun-chan, can you hang out with Prez for a while after you’re done with your club?”
Look at my killer pass! Wasn’t it amazing?
All you need to do is to follow up, Cosmos!
“I don’t mind, but do you mind it, President? I mean, you’ll be stuck with a sweaty and smelly guy like me…”
“I don’t mind, nya!”
She transformed from a young lady to a cat.
And she somehow didn’t notice it as she kept on talking.
“I-I… W-Want… T-To do… S-Something… A-About… M-My image, baa! I-I want to be closer to other students too, nya! A-Also, I want to get to know you better, Oga-kun, nya!”
“O-Okay… G-Got it, President…”
You were stuttering at weird points in your sentence, you know? It made your words sound weird.
Also, you made a sheep noise at one point.
That last part was nice though. The blush you made when you mentioned his name and looked at him in the eye earned you a point from me.
God, I wish that was me. Why didn’t she do that to me too?
Because she doesn’t love me! Oh my goodness!
“Hahaha. By the way, since you two are going to hang out a lot from now on, why not try to call each other by your nicknames? Prez, try calling him ‘Sun-chan.’ And you, Sun-chan, try calling her ‘Cosmos.’”
That was a godly move from me if I may say so myself. Maybe I had ascended and turned into a god already? No, I was still a human!
“Ah, right! Then, please take care of me, Cosmos-san!”
“Likewise… Sun-chan…”
She let out a soft smile. It seemed like she had finally calmed down.
What a nice smile. Back to the normal Cosmos.
“S-Somehow, this feels embarrassing…”
Seeing Cosmos’ embarrassed look, Sun-chan scratched his head awkwardly.
Hmm… It seemed like he also thought of Cosmos as a girl, same as Himawari. Well, that was a given, I guess.
After all, Cosmos was a beauty.
We continued to discuss what we would be doing in the future, but that was a tell to tale for the future.
And so, their first contact had ended in success and my exciting day had come to an end.
Then I realized that I had to deal with this every day from now on…
