“Hey, Ryu! The cherry blossoms are so beautiful!”
My childhood friend, Miyu, spoke to me with a familiar nickname.
One day in early April, the cherry blossoms were in full bloom.
We’re walking together from the apartment we rented near the university.
After all, today was the entrance ceremony of our school, Tsukuha University.
Tsukuha University is a national university located 45 minutes by train or 15 minutes by bus from Akihabara in Tokyo.
Incidentally, the city of Tsukunami, where the University is located, is sometimes referred to as the Research Academy City.¹
In fact, there are so many research facilities in the city, but it is quite a rural place.
I, Takato Ryuji, am a first-year student of the Department of Programming and Computer Sciences.
My grades are mediocre, my height, build, and appearance are all average.
My hobbies include anime, manga, games, light novels, and programming.
I’m what they call an open otaku.
My neighbor, Asakura Miyu, is also a first-year student of the Department of Programming and Computer Science.
Miyu has excellent grades and is very athletic. She’s a little on the small side, with semi-long, fluffy hair.
Her eyes were large and bright, she’s slender, but has a figure that shows a lot.
In other words, she’s very cute.
The Department of Programming and Computer Sciences is a department that teaches about computers.
It’s not just about programming, but also the mechanism and theory of how a computer works.
“Cherry blossoms aside, Miyu doesn’t look good in a suit.”
I said lightly, this is the first time I’ve seen Miyu in a suit.
To be honest, I had the impression that she was a small child wearing a grown-up suit.
“Is that a roundabout way of saying that I look like a child??”
Miyu was confused, but her voice sounded happy.
“Yeah, I guess so. It feels like you’re just wearing a suit.”
“I know that I don’t look good in a suit… “
“I’m just kidding, It looks good on you.”
I gently stroked Miyu’s head.
“S-Stop, there are people watching.”
“Oops, sorry.”
I stroked her head out of habit.
The next moment, there was a sudden rush of wind.
The blooming cherry blossoms were blown away by the wind and came flying towards us.
“Uwah! A Cherry blossom blizzard!”
The scene was too perfect for the entrance ceremony.
The cherry blossoms seemed to be blessing me.
Poetic words flashed through my mind for a moment.
“It’s like they’re blessing us.”
“That’s a very poetic thing to say.”
“Oh, don’t make fun of me.”
I didn’t tell her why I was thinking of that poetry.
“But, will you be able to get along with the boys in our department?”
I was anxious for her.
With the exception of me and a few others, Miyu can’t get along with boys her own age.
It was all because of an incident that happened in high school.
It still pisses me off whenever I remember it.
“Well, I’ll watch over you, okay? We’ll take care of it, little by little.”
But I’ve always seen Miyu trying her best despite her trauma.
So I encouraged her with heartfelt words.
“…Yes!”
With a strong nod from Miyu, we entered the main auditorium.
This was the beginning.
The beginning of an exciting college life for me, my girlfriend, and our friends that surrounds us.
