Kimi ni Koi wo Suru Nante, Arienai Hazu Datta - Afterword

Thank you for picking up this copy of I was Supposed to Never Fall in Love with You: Graduation from among countless other works. This book is the sequel to I was Supposed to Never Fall in Love with You, which was published in March 2007, and is the final volume of a two-volume series. I would like to extend my sincerest apologies to those of you who picked up this book without having known about the previous volume, and would very much appreciate it if you could analogize the relationships between the characters by referring to the information in the synopsis.

For those of you who have come from the previous volume, I am very much relieved to finally be able to publish this long-awaited sequel. As I did in the afterword of the previous volume, I would like to apologize again for cutting off the story at such a cliffhanger. I hope that the ending of their story is satisfactory to many of you.

For the second volume, I decided to move the story away from Chiba. I used to live in Yonezawa (a long time ago) and chose that location because I liked it and had some familiarity with the area. Also, I am quite fond of Iijima’s older sister, so I was in a very good mood when I wrote the scene where the siblings took a trip to look for Iijima’s new residence. In fact, it is the reason why the scene is strangely detailed despite it having little to do with the main story.

During the spring vacation chapter, Yasuki mentions that “cooking rice in an earthenware pot makes it come out pretty good”, and indeed, it does. It is also surprisingly easy to make as well. After washing the rice normally, drain the water, put it in the earthenware pot, and pour in some water with a ratio of 1 part rice to 1 part water. Next, heat it up, and when it starts boiling, turn the heat down. Let the residual heat steam the rice a little further. Add a tablespoon of sake to make the rice fluffier. Be careful not to let it spill over during the boiling process.

To close out this section, I would like to extend my utmost gratitude to U-35, who drew the art for this book’s cover as well. (The covers for the first volume and this volume are both set in a matching train station theme!) I had to thank them first and foremost because this book would not have been possible without them, so thank you very much! I would also like to thank the booksellers who have graciously made space for my work in their precious shelves; the readers all over the country who have cheered our spineless main character, Yasuki, on; the kind editors at the editorial department who have guided my lacking self as an author from my previous work Sea of Tranquility; Hina Project Inc., the company behind Shosetsuka ni Narou; Cloudgate; the people in the marketing and sales department whom I have yet to meet; the designer Kikuchi who made the book’s excessively long title much cooler; and to everyone else involved in this book.

It’s been a while, but it’s me again. And it’s also been exactly one month since I released chapter 7.. I deliberately decided to release chapter 8 and 9 together because I think they really complement each other. As is customary, sorry for the long delay.

Anyways, I hope you appreciated my sloppy editing of c9’s pictures. I’ve never RDed anything before, so it was a pretty novel experience. I have newfound respect and admiration for all those who scanlate manga on a regular basis.

So with that, I’ve finished the series. Well, kinda. There’s a spinoff and a third volume that seems to be filled with short stories. But for the most part, the main storyline is now over. It’s such a load off my chest. I think I’ve been working on this for a year, and I need a long break from TLing. Let me sleep and loaf around for a year or two.
