He’s Polite At The Part-Time Job
On the night that my handbook was returned to me, I was working part-time as usual.
I was concerned about the person who handed it back to me, but thinking about it wouldn’t help. It wouldn’t change anything.
But, even though I wanted to give them my gratitude, for now I’ll put it at the back of my mind and concentrate on my work.
[Hiiragi-san, I’ll do that]
As I was about to take a cardboard box from the top shelf in the back of the store to resupply, I was approached from behind. I didn’t have to turn around to know who it was. Judging from their voice, it must be Tanaka-kun.
[Thank you very much]
[No, I just noticed the paper was missing from the tables and came to get it myself]
I moved away and gave up the place I was a moment ago, and he quickly entered and took the cardboard box down. It was very encouraging to see him easily take down the cardboard box, which would be too heavy for me by myself.
[I’ll take care of this, so please close the register, Hiiragi-san]
I thanked him for helping me because I was troubled due to its weight, and he said that was all he had to do and left.
But still, he’s really gentlemanly. I’ve guided Tanaka-san several times since then, and he’s exactly like my first impression of him. Basically, he speaks softly and is easy to talk to, and he doesn’t mind if I treat him in a strong tone and a little coldly. He’s someone who does what he’s instructed to do. (TN: Btw, author did suddenly change from -kun to -san, for some reason)
Even with my cold attitude and my unfriendly aura, he must be a kind person from the bottom of his heart as he’s still kind to me despite it.
I’ve never met someone like that before and because of that, I slowly began to trust him as a person. Ironically, dressing this way allowed me to escape from the eyes of those around me for the first time and I’m able to actually breathe.
[Hiiragi-san]
When I finished my shift and left the locker room, Tanaka-san was waiting for me.
[Is something wrong?]
[Thank you again for your help today]
[…Did I help you with something?]
He bowed his head and thanked me, but I don’t remember doing anything to earn his thanks. In fact, he saved me a while ago.
Puzzled by his attitude, I ask him why.
[I was having trouble dealing with a complaining customer who came in today, and you took over for me]
[…Ahh, so that’s what happened. Don’t worry about it. That’s my job]
He reminded me of an incident that happened during my shift. I vaguely recalled that time, saying that such a thing did happen.
He dropped a plate while serving it, and the customer complained about this and that, so I took care of it.
Even though he’s been here for a fair number of days, he was probably still new to many aspects of the industry, and since I had more experience, I went to help out. Well, I was originally appointed by the manager as his supervisor, so I merely fulfilled that role.
I told him not to worry about it because I saw it as one of my jobs, but he looked somewhat displeased.
[No, there’s no way I could not care! Do you have any problems that you need help with? Maybe I can help]
He looked at me with a serious expression. Maybe he was trying to fulfill his duty in his own way. He thanked me several times in the past, so perhaps that was one of the reasons.
Because of this, I was somewhat perplexed by the fact he didn’t stand down from my words, but his sincerity was refreshing and made me a little happy.
It would be impolite to ignore his offer, and while thinking about what to do, I remembered something that was troubling me a bit.
I decided to accept his offer, since my current knowledge wasn’t very helpful and the opinion of a member of the opposite sex seemed to be a more reliable source.
[….Then, can you discuss one thing with me?]
