I Became Friends with the Second Cutest Girl in My Class - Chapter 155
Chapter 155 – Author’s Note 2
Firstly, thank you for reading ‘I Became Friends with the Second Cutest Girl in My Class’. I’m the author.
I’m happy to announce that Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko will be releasing the book version of ‘I Became Friends with the Second Cutest Girl in My Class’ on December 24th. Once again, I give my sincere thanks to everyone who has been reading my work.
I’ve posted the sneak peak images for the book on my status, everyone can check it out and let me know your opinions. (T/N: Can’t find anything in the author’s status, probably deleted it already.)
For the book version, I’ve reviewed the web version of the series and made sure that it would be enjoyable to read.
That’s everything for now. If there’s further notice, I’ll make sure to state it on my status, so feel free to follow me.
As for the next update, it will be out as soon as the book version is released, so I’ll appreciate everyone’s patience.
Once again, thank you for your support, everyone.
– Note from December 14th 2021.
The bonus side stories will be provided by the following stores:
- Animate
- Melon Books
- Gamers
Each side story will show the cute sides of Umi that weren’t present in the main story from the viewpoints of people other than Maki. I hope everyone will enjoy those side stories.
T/N: This is a good place to put in some TL notes, so I’ll do just that. First thing first, I’m amazed that some of you are actually reading this arc’s chapters daily, thank you for that, I’m happy that I don’t suffer alone.
Some of the SS are actually available in the author’s kakuyomu page, but I’m not going to TL them since they’re locked contents. I feel bad for TLing those kinds of contents, sorry about that.
Also, this note marks the end of the arc. I think it’s obvious at this point that I’m not fond of it. I understand the author’s intentions, he wanted to give Amami more spotlight so she has a reason to fall in love with Maki, but I think that he could execute that in a better way. I mean, through the arc, we never got moments where Amami could get to know Maki better or vice versa, it’s all about Amami and Arae. We established that Amami is important to Maki, but the author never really wrote about how close their relationship actually was, they barely had moments together as friends, just little snippets here and there, if only the author works on their relationship a little bit more, the arc would probably be more enjoyable. Then there’s a problem with the pacing, like the basketball match is too dragged out for no reason and the author just skipped the second base scene with Umi and Maki for some reason. Well, if I were to put all my opinions here, it would be endless, so I’ll just stop. I hope that the author will write the arc better in the LN because the arc has the potential to be good.
Anyway, the next arc is the real deal. We finally get what we’re here for, the relationship between the two will progress further and we’ll get a little insight into the past of a certain member of the Asanagi family, so please don’t give up on this series and look forward to it.
Next, the release date for LN vol 2 is August 1st. I’m not going to TL the LN, since it’s Sneaker Bunko, as long as the LN doesn’t get axed, we’ll get an official release sooner or later.
Lastly, give me time until the next chapter release because I want to finish translating the current arc of my other series. There are a few chapters left there, so it won’t take more than a week, maybe. Anyway, see ya later.
E/N: Well, Iyo and I share many of the same opinions about this arc. One could say it was wasted potential, but I despise sports commentary in novels. I just don’t find it fun to read, let alone translate/edit. So for those that took the time to read through this arc, I salute you. “You da real MVP.”
As for the ??? chapter. God I hope the author does something interesting with it. Only fluff can get stale so hopefully this plot point can add some spice to it in the future.
Main couple fluff will be returning soon, so look forward to it! Thank you all for reading and sticking with us! Until next time, PEACE!

I really hope the author knows that romantic relationship is not the only thing that is beautiful in this world.
.
I hope instead of having love triangle, he would make them bestfriends instead.

I wonder if the author actually hates Yuu, she in for a lot of suffering by falling for Maki..

I honestly he doesn’t do anything to drastic with it, love triangle drama is just the worst. This wouldn’t be a problem if this was harem but it’s not.

Fluff and chaos, are always welcome!

Thank you for the tl and the ed. I definitely felt that the arc was dragged out.
Maybe its the first time author-san wrote something like this? It is very different from the earlier arcs after all.
Looking forward for the next arc. Thanks again for the tl and ed

Amami is so weirdly written since from the start. She barely had any interact with Maki and suddenly boom inlove like wut? Hu Tao? Who Tao moment.
The author really dropped the ball.
Hopefully they’ll stil be able to fix all this if they adapt it to anime or light novel.
Also maybe tone down Arae’s harassment a little bit in the light novel or anime. She’s the character that can push readers to drop your book.

It’s just such a shame. The series had so much potential yet the author squandered it. I had quite faith in them too given what they delivered in the first two arcs given the rough beginning but Japanese LN authors can never escape the folly of being Japanese LN authors eh?
I truly believe the story was over by chapter 106. Both the MC and the heroine dealt with their personal issues and were ready to commit to their relationship. There was little room for anything else. I could see the series continue as simply SoL fluff but that didn’t seem all that interesting and would go against the nature of the story. Sure the interactions between the titular characters were the main appeal, but they did not occur in a vacuum. The story was ultimately a drama.
So to continue the story, the author practically inserted drama for the sake of it and sidelined the main characters for an entire arc. And at the point I’m writing this, they are about to insert yet more pointless drama with the love triangle crap. I don’t know if I’d want to even continue reading anymore. It’s all reduneant and extra, just as I feared. I can’t against my better judgement not say that the author hasn’t sold out. The webnovel was clearly succesful. I’m not denying that the author is passionate still, but they are clearly just doing whatever suits their whims. Their interest in basketball should not be to the detriment of the story but alas.
The most tragic aspect in all of this is, that there is a way to continue the webnovel without taking away from all the prior development. Make Nozomu the protagonist. It’s kind of sad the extend he was written out of the story. Author must really be allergic to Maki interacting with any male characters. We didn’t even get to see their match. Regardless, the author clearly wants Yuu to get the spotlight, with his favouritism and all, so wouldn’t it make sense for her to be the heroine of a different protagonist?
Sure people would be dissatisfied since it would still be sidelining the main couple, but at least it would still be a romance story and not some pointless sports arc and would avoid a love triangle.
Ample opportunity would be made available to expand on Nozomu’s character and could take Yuu’s character in a much better direction than it is currently taken. She’s just an annoying obstacle to people’s OTP and she’s clearly self-centered to a fault with a hero complex. She’s an unbearable character to read, and precisely when the plot demands attention towards her, she’s at her worst. I felt like a masochist reading through the sports arc. Truly. The fact that the plot basically gives her qll the contrivances she needs to get close to Maki yet does not capitalize on any of the opportunity to deepen their relatoonship and actually make the love triangle work is just one sick joke. I cackle as I try to scrape my hair off at this insanity. How could anyone write this?
I can not even begin to exclaim how inappropriate a love triangle is at this current stage. Well, that’s the wrong expression, I’ve long begun. Love triangles work because, despite however obvious the winner is, there is a degree or uncertainty to who would win and the heroines are given a similar playing field e.g development. But here you already have a winner. The entire story basically centers around Umi and she’s the main appeal of the novel. By the time the novel is willing to set up a love triangle and flesh out Yuu, she’s pretty much settled in a really well developed relationship with Maki. I know Yuu falling in love and secretly wishing to steal her bf would provide a great source of drama given Umi’s fears and complexes. But the opportunity was already missed and at that stage, you’re just antagonizing the reader. It doesn’t help that Yuu is so unlikeable.
So I’d rather have an POV switch with Nozomu which wouldn’t get in the way of the pairing, it would fleshen both him and his relationship with Maki out. Instead of a love triangle, you could set up an arc where Yuu has to face her flaws and Nozomu ends up taking advantage of that to get close to her. It’s kinda sad how the story pretty much glosses over Yuu’s flaws and from Maki’s POV they are made out to be the virtues of some ‘angel’. I would like to think that it’s a bit too obvious that she’ll have an arc about exactly those flaws of her. But I wish the story acknowledged them more.
I don’t doubt that Yuu would be forced to accept that her love is unrequited and Nozomu would end up as the next best thing. But alas, should I bear the suffering of this needless love triangle? I’m already invested which makes the decision whether to drop this hard. Well, whoever read this, I’m glad you listened to my TED talk.

Thanks for the chapters…………

I fully agree with your thoughts about this arc. Until the ???? arc I didn’t even know the author was trying to give Amami a reason to fall for Maki… I thought it was only to develop her character and add another one.
If the next arc is about Umi and Maki deepening their relationship I wonder if we will have to wait for the following one to see what happens with Amami’s feelings
This means more Venomous tongue chapters? Let’s go!! That one needs to speed up the pace, it’s moving forward soooooooo slow
Reading the chapters is quite easy, the MVP’s are you that sacrifice your sanity to translate/edit it for us to read, so thanks.
