Prologue
On the 200 m track field, surrounded by loud cheers, I, Kureha Sara, took a deep breath.
“Do your best, Red Team—!”
“Kureha-sama—!!”
The autumn breeze that blew through the air eased my skin, which had been exposed to the sun for a while.
Beside me, another girl, Mareshino Rui, turned her gaze around and smiled at me.
“You might be unbeatable when it comes to sports and such, Kureha-san, but this time, it doesn’t matter! What is required to win this race is team effort! And we, the Blue Team, will show you our strength!”
Her words were polite. You’d thought that she’s just earnestly challenging me at a glance, but her words actually had an underlying meaning beneath it.
‘No matter how good you are at sports, you can’t turn things around.’ That was what she was trying to say.
“The Red Team has entrusted me with my current role as an anchor, quite a big responsibility, if I may say so myself. That’s why I’ll do my best to live up to their expectations. I’m sure you are in the same situation as me, right, Mareshino-san? Let’s do our best together, shall we?”
‘You’re not even that fast, why did they even pick you as an anchor?’ Was what I was trying to say.
From the way she averted her gaze with her cheeks flushed, trying to pretend to focus on the relay race, it seemed like she got the message.
“…Please don’t push yourself too hard. You can’t injure yourself in a place like this. As the candidate of ‘The Belle Fleur,’ who’s loved by everyone, your body is a treasure for the whole school.”
Basically, she was saying, ‘There’s this much gap already, why don’t you just give up now?’
I tied my red hair into a ponytail. In hindsight, the Blue Team’s current runner, the one who’d pass the baton to Mareshino Rui as their anchor, was a relatively good runner. She already gave her team such a huge lead that at a glance, people could tell that this race would end in their victory.
This was the final event of the Sports Festival, the final relay race. The area around the track was crowded with students, as the whole school had gathered to watch this race.
Like it or not, this was the most anticipated event of the Festival. If only our team, the Red Team, wasn’t currently struggling— No, we were actually in last place right now, so calling it struggling wouldn’t cut it.
Well, I guess that was what would make this thing more exciting.
Rui, who had just received the baton, started to dash away from me. She wasn’t the fastest runner in our school, but she was still faster than your average second-years. If I were to judge her running form, and running form only, hers was the prettiest one out of everyone.
Right after she dashed away, the cheers got even louder than before.
“Mareshino-sama~! Do your best~!”
“Go, Blue Team! Go, Blue Team!”
You could probably tell it already by hearing those cheers, but she was really, really popular. It wasn’t because she was a celebrity or anything, hell, she’d be suck as one, but people just loved her that much. In this school, she was probably more popular than any celebrities out there.
Anyway, I’ll give her that much of a lead.
After that, the Yellow Team’s anchor, followed by the White Team’s, ran past me. I only received the baton from our team’s previous runner a little later. She was a first-year, there was an apologetic expression on her face as she passed the baton to me with bated breaths. I smiled at her before taking the baton from her hand.
“Don’t worry. You can leave it to me from here.”
I kicked the ground forcefully and started dashing.
As I did, I heard more loud cheers, as if trying to propel me forward even faster. So I did. As if I became one with the wind, I increased my speed. In the blink of an eye, I already overtook the White Team’s anchor.
At that moment, the cheers got even louder. It felt as if I was holding a concert and they were my faithful fans. The race went on despite that, and as I reached the first curve…
I dropped the Yellow Team’s anchor to third place, and the cheers had grown to be the largest one yet as they anticipated the climax of the show; The showdown between two of the most popular girls in our school.
Rui, who was ahead, most likely had heard my name being mentioned amidst the cheers. I could already see her back from where I was at. If it was any other person, they’d feel pressured by this situation, affecting their performance greatly, but that wouldn’t be the case with her.
With each step I took, the gap between us shortened.
But, this wasn’t enough, as she had entered the last straight course to the finish line.
Still, I couldn’t just give up. For the sake of the girls who were cheering for me.
And most importantly. For the sake of my own pride.
We gradually approached the finish line. Surrounded by the cheers and screams, we pushed our legs forward. At one point, everything around me slowed down. Rui’s back, seemingly impossible to reach at first, had disappeared from my line of sight.
First step, we lined up.
Second step, I passed her.
Third step, I crossed the finish line.
“Kyaaaa!”
Surrounded by the loud cheers, I fell down to my knees.
…I won… Hehehe… I won… I beat Mareshino Rui… I held the urge to laugh out loud there, but my heart couldn’t hide the elated feelings it felt.
Still, I had to endure. This was a public place, I had to keep my composure.
As I tried to stand, I staggered. After what I had just pulled off, it wasn’t a wonder that I felt so drained. But, someone came in and supported me by my shoulder.
“I never thought you’d make a comeback from the last place like that. As expected of you, Kureha-san. You’re worthy of being the pride of the Mizugahara Academy.”
“…Mareshino-san…”
Rui, who seemed to be as worn out as me, lent me her shoulder. After that, cheers as loud as when I crossed the finish line echoed through the air.
The thunderous applause coming from the surroundings seemed to never end.
Ignoring what she was actually feeling when she said those words, I let out a carefree smile at her.
“Hehe, thank you. It’s always fun when you’re around.”
“Y-You… Same here…”
As a response, she let out a bright smile.
After that, I heard a rumor about a picture of me and Rui embracing each other by the shoulder was distributed by the photography club. And that picture somehow became the most distributed picture in the club’s history.

“…Wait, why were they also cheering for you when it was my sole victory?”
“Oh my. I even went out of my way to lend you a hand when you were down, and you somehow found a reason to criticize me? What you should do is to thank me for what I’ve done.”
We were currently inside the dimly lit gym storage room.
It was evening, and the cleaning up for the Sports Festival was almost done. I could hear the voices of the other students going home. As for the two of us, we’d be staying here a little longer.
“Also, weren’t you the one who said, ‘It’s always fun when you’re around,’ to me, Sara-san? Why are you complaining about this now?”
“Yeah, I did say that. It was fun to crush you, snatch that victory away from you when you were just a moment away from it. Do you understand what I was trying to say now? Anyway, for some reason, they cheered for you too despite me being the sole winner. What the hell was that?”
“They didn’t cheer just because of you winning the race. It’s because of the drama. Or actually, did it bother you so much that I almost won that?”
She showed me a provocative smile. Seeing it, something clicked in my head.
I slammed my hand on the wall. Caught between me and the wall, Rui’s smug look was replaced by a timid one.
“Hmm… Look at you, daring to say something like that. I thought I’ve disciplined you enough— Ah, is it that? You’re acting like this on purpose because you want to be disciplined by me again? Hm?”
“Huh?! N-No way I—”
As I lifted her chin up, a blush appeared on her soft cheeks.
In that dimly lit warehouse, her beauty was the only thing that glowed brightly.
Seriously, why was she so pretty? From her glare, her furrowed eyebrows that expressed her displeasure toward me, to the bridge of her pointed nose; They made up this kind of balance that felt unique, but also perfect. Of course, I wasn’t trying to say that her composed look wasn’t pretty enough or anything, it was just, I’d rather her to show me this kind of face instead.
This was the girl I fell in love with. No one knew about these feelings of mine, and trying to keep it as a secret felt all the more thrilling for me.
“Ngghh—!”
I pressed my lips against her. At first, Rui’s eyes widened in surprise, but she quickly accepted my lips and started to kiss me back. This wasn’t our first time doing this, so it was a given that she’d be able to react properly.
Then, I put my knee between her legs, and intertwined it with one of hers. We were still wearing our P.E. uniforms, so naturally, our bare legs touched each other. Now, my lips weren’t the only part of my body that felt her warmth.
“Ngh… Mmm… Ahh… S-Sara…san…”
My figure was reflected in her soft, moist eyes.
The tension that had been building between us disappeared. Such was our relationship, bound by a ‘contract.’
I stroked her hair as she cutely offered her head on her own, as if she couldn’t wait for me to pamper her.
No one woulda thought that the two most popular students in this school were doing such lewd things in a secluded place like this. Especially considering that there were still many students around.
My heart raced. I couldn’t hold back my excitement.
Then, I buried my face onto Rui’s chest.

“Even better.”

“Stop lying to yourself, you know you want this.”

“Hm?”
Suddenly she pushed me down. There was a mattress below me, so I didn’t get hurt or anything, but I was still surprised by her sudden action.
“Seriously… I told you to stop doing this at school, didn’t I? You’re such a selfish Little Princess, aren’t you?”
Rui wiped her mouth with the back of her hand before straddling me by my waist.
Her eyes shone with a mysterious glint as she stared down at me.
‘T-This girl…’
Without missing a beat, she bent over and showered me with kisses.
Not only that, she ran her fingers from my neck down to my chest, moving to my stomach as she poked it lightly before going even… Further down…?
“Idiot—! T-That place—!”
I raised my voice, trying to stop her. But at that moment, I could hear voices coming from outside.
“Kureha-sama is as beautiful as always today~”
“I know, right? Also, the last relay was really something!”
In a panic, I covered my mouth so that my voice wouldn’t leak out. The windows of the storage room were opened for ventilation, so anyone could hear the slightest noise we made here. And of course, if one of those girls were to peek inside…
But this fact didn’t stop the girl on top of me from doing her thing. If anything, she became even more daring as she slipped her hand inside of my uniform, as if trying to stir up the heat that had been building up inside me.
“R-Rui, wait—! I-I’m going to get mad for real, you know—?! Ngh–!”
I scolded her in a whisper, but that didn’t make her lose her composure at all.
“Stay still. If you don’t, those girls outside will find out.”
“R-Rather than that… W-Why don’t you just— Stop—?! Mmh! ”
She used her fingers to play around with my sensitive parts.
“Ah, jeez—! You’re the one who’s supposed to be down here—! You shoulda just… Stayed down… And let me—”
“Took those words out of my mouth, Sara-san. Why don’t you stay down and let me do my thing? That way, I’ll be happy, you’ll be happy, and both of us will be satisfied, no? Stop thinking about anything and just let me do what I want, okay?”
“…Rui, have you forgotten what happened the other day? You hugged me, crying while begging me to stop, saying things like if I didn’t stop you’ll go crazy. I thought that would increase your intelligence a little, but I guess you still need more discipline.”
After that, both of us intensely glared at each other.
Meanwhile, the female students outside kept on talking as they passed the gym by.
“Between Kureha-sama and Mareshino-sama, who do you think will become the Belle Fleur?”
“I don’t know. But whoever wins, I’ll be fine with it!”
“Same here!”
Under the evening sky, while those innocent girls cheerfully chatting outside, we were here, chuckling at each other, glaring toward each other with fire in our eyes.
‘…This is all for the sake of obtaining the most prestigious title in this school. The Belle Fleur.’
