Convention - Ch. 0 Prologue
What would you do if you could know the future?
What would you do if the Earth had only a few months left?
The absurd but true history is finally revealed to all eyes, and conspiracies and deceptions are gradually surfacing. At this time of impending doom, who got what, and who is hiding what, the truth of the tunnel experiment surfaced with the appearance of Gladini, in the 10 years that were erased, what did the HuangYuan actually do, who among the Mo sisters is the real sacred, or perhaps someone else…
(Volume Synopsis)
In the darkness, the brunette woman was exhausted, lying in the back seat of the jeep as it weaved through the tunnels, having just came close to being caught by her enemies and sent to prison. Because of the transitional nervousness plus the fact that she just had used the power of the stone, she felt weak.
At this moment, the woman thought of a story.
To be precise, it is in a dream that recalled a story that was told to her by her sister.
This story has a taste of mythology, but also a fairy tale hidden within the lines.
Time has passed too long, the woman forgot the rhetoric or style of writing this story, and could only vaguely recall the general content.
It said that a long, long time ago —
There was an old man who was content with his life, with herds of cattle and sheep and endless grains to eat.
His home was protected from wind and rain, and the lives of his family were not plagued by any disease.
All this was because he was blessed by God, who favored him and his family.
His life, property, and family are all gifts from God.
Therefore he was very devout to God, he burned his rations for it, slaughtered cattle and sheep for it, lived his life according to its requirements, and adhered to the harsh commandments of life it had set for him.
He never had a single complaint, for him, abiding by the commandments of standard living was a supreme joy. Although these commandments are too weighty for ordinary people, people could not understand why he could comply with these commandments for a hundred years. But the world respected him as a person, and thus they respected his way of life.
Until one day he began to accuse people of not strictly following the commandments of God. His attacks were like raindrops, raining down everywhere, from his neighbors, to the people who lived at the entrance of the village, none of whom escaped his accusations, and these people left in shame, hiding their faces.
But in the long run, people found that most of them were still unable to live exactly according to the commandments, which was too difficult for ordinary people, so they did not feel ashamed anymore, and instead, the old man was isolated.
Gradually, the old man felt that people had become numb to his painful cries and no longer felt ashamed.
It seemed that people’s bottom line had been lowered.
He was deeply saddened by this, so he knelt down and prayed for two days and two nights, asking the Lord Almighty to save his sunken compatriots.
God heard his prayer, and thus caused his eyelids to become heavy and he fell into a deep sleep.
God turned into a light smoke in his dream and said to him.
“Give me your children as a sacrifice, so that I may bring people to their senses.”
When the words were finished, the old man woke up.
He got up from the prayer carpet, first rejoicing at God’s promise, and then felt sorrow.
For he had only an eight-year-old son, and was old, so it was hard for him to have this son.
But his strong faith made him quickly make up his mind, not only for himself, but for all people.
So the next morning, he got up early and then took his only son to the top of the mountain where he used to sacrifice him.
Perhaps disturbed by his too-early morning noise, the whole town got up early, and when they saw the old man they asked.
“What are you doing up so early?”
“Sacrificing for God.” He said.
When the people saw that he had brought with him the rich and extravagant food and drink that would be enjoyed only at a banquet, they thought that he was going to sacrifice it to the gods.
“What is the use of your wastefulness? What is the use of sacrifice? It is enough not to despise God.” The people mocked.
“He gives and He takes away.”
Without even looking at them, the old man took his son and a cartload of food up the mountain.
At the top of the mountain, he made the child eat and drink enough, and used rice wine to get his son drunk. The old man looked at his child silently, and although his heart ached but he could not do anything, he thought in his heart that it was all for God, and raised his knife……
At this time a light appeared, and an angel descended from the sky.
The old man was shaken by the dazzling light, and the knife in his hand fell to the ground.
The angel said, “We already know that you are a Godly man, you do not have to sacrifice your son, God is already satisfied.”
He responded, “What about my sunken neighbors?”
“God has made his own arrangements.”
The angel finished speaking and went back to heaven.
Later, the old man returned home with his child and died not long after at the age of 100, and his son became a leader who used the law and power to regulate people and bring them back to the age of simplicity.
This was the arrangement of God.
But the young man was worried, having witnessed how people had fallen in his father’s time.
He was afraid that sooner or later people would repeat the same mistakes, so he also prayed to God.
And God answered him in a dream.
“Give me your child as a sacrifice.”
Then the book was closed.
The story ended abruptly, and what happened after that, the woman did not know.
Maybe she didn’t see it, maybe she forgot it. In this world, people are the only creatures who selectively forget. This may not be a good thing for humans. After all, Neanderthals, who were smarter and stronger than Homo sapiens, died out because they were too depressed, and the depression gene in modern humans seems to be from Neanderthals.
But as good as forgetting was, there was a limit to it, and some memories are known to be etched in stone for life.
The woman remembered clearly how she was punished for having read such a story when she was 15 years old.
And to this day, she was still not sure why she was punished in such a way.
It was the shadow of her life.
“Break five fingers.”
In front of her eyes, the icy voice of a white-haired woman ordered.
The woman stood in the shadows, unable to see her face, only a long shadow could be seen. The shadow grew larger and larger, as if it could not escape no matter how much it ran, and even if it hid in the darkness, the shadow was always deeper than the darkness, so much so that it showed its shape.
This woman was her adoptive mother and her savior, and she called this woman the Professor.
“Break five fingers! Are you only going to obied after being locked up for another three months?”
Impatient with her confusion, the Professor ordered in a stronger voice.
And on the opposite side of the darkness, five fingers were extended to her.
“Do it.”
Five long, slender fingers were extended in front of her.
“Tsuki, turn on the lights and show her what happens when she disobeys.” The Professor said.
The light of the confinement room was turned on and a boy appeared in front of her eyes.
It was a blue-eyed boy with light brown hair, with fair skin, a year older than her, named Ingolf Arnaulsson, a child the Professor had captured not long ago.
“Professor, I know I’m wrong! Please forgive me, I shouldn’t have read it, I really didn’t know that book was the Bible! I really didn’t know!” She cried, praying to the white-haired woman in front of her.
“Then tell me who gave it to you to read, tell me and I will spare you.”
“I, I can’t tell, I promised, I can’t tell, I can’t tell!” She held her head in her hands and shook it desperately.
“Do it, it’s okay.” The teenager in front of her said, “Mo Xiao, do it, it’s okay.”
She raised her eyes and looked timidly at the teenager, who didn’t have the slightest fear.
So, she tremblingly reached out her hand and took hold of his smallest finger.
With all her strength, she broke it.
Generally speaking, even for a girl, it would not take much effort with two hands, the whole process may be just a few seconds.
But in her memory, she exerted her strength for a full minute, watching the little finger tremble and slowly bend in an impossible direction.
There was only a crunching sound, the sound of joints rubbing against joints resounding in the infinite darkness, a sound that sounded like thunder in her ears and penetrated her brain as the broken finger swayed in the air like a rope on a gallows.
She was scared out of her wits by the thunder, and instantly sat down on the ground.
The teenager didn’t say a word, not knowing if it was because the pain was beyond what words could express, or if it was because his tenderness was beyond the pain.
“Do you need me to do it? Miss.”
The owner of the voice was Wakatsuki Uraki, a person who still made her feel sick when she recalled it. The blonde woman always wore a shameless outfit, smiled frivolously, and was in cahoots with the white-haired woman.
“You do it, then.”
The teenager said, his voice twitching a little from his rapid panting.
Crouching on the ground, she could clearly hear the sound of water dripping, the sound of the teenager’s sweat dripping down gradually, drop after drop, as he endured the pain.
“She doesn’t want to do it, so don’t force her.”
“Fine.”
Wakizuki replied gloatingly.
Even without looking at her face, from the sound, she could see that this woman’s twisted face was about to laugh out loud.
SNAP!
Another one, this time even louder, as if something had exploded in the suffocating silence, seemed to be far more painful than before as well.
It caused the teenager to scream out in pain.
But she didn’t dare to look up, she didn’t dare to look, she could only let the sound enter her head from her ears and shape a gut-wrenching scene in her head.
She repeated the words ‘I’m sorry’ over and over again.
SNAP!
SNAP!
SNAP!
Then one, then another, then the last.
The teenager’s cries were louder and more in pain than the one before, and with the last one, the cries in the room disappeared and everything returned to peace, the teenager had nearly fainted.
The girl hid in the corner, she only heard the sound of sweat dripping down, and the sound of the teenager’s gasping, faintly, and the sound of stifled laughter coming from Wakatsuki.
“Very well, then, it’s your turn.”
The white-haired woman nodded.
With that, Wakatsuki pulled her up from the ground, tugged her hand, and handed her over to the teenager’s side.
Her whole body was limp and wet underneath, she wanted to cry, but was so scared that she didn’t even have the strength to cry.
She didn’t know if the teenager was looking at her crying face because she turned her head to the side, like an ostrich would bury its head in the sand when it met danger.
“Professor, Missy got scared and peed her pants.”
“That bit of guts, what a no-good, compared to your mother, it’s far worse.”
SNAP!
Another crunching sound spread out around.
But she didn’t feel any pain, her five fingers were still intact, and she could clearly feel their presence on her hand.
“Eh?”
“So, you guys will forgive her, right?”
The teenager on one side said, sweat dripping from his jaw.
“You said, we’ll just break five fingers each, right? Then I’ll snap my own as well.”
She turned her head to find the teenager had taken his ring finger in his mouth, then pressed his teeth against it and broke it off hard.
Now, she couldn’t escape anymore as she watched the teenager take the fingers in his mouth one by one, breaking them off with excruciating pain, the middle finger, the index finger, and finally the thumb.
The thumb was so strong that the teenager seemed to yank the entire palm of his hand off with a vengeance, biting hard on the last thumb.
Between his lips flowed a bright red liquid, mixed in with the sweat that dripped on the ground, she saw all of this, then fainted.
Later, she knew little about what happened, only that the culprit who stole the book, the one she called her sister — Mo You, was unharmed. Until today, she has grown up, but also completely unable to figure out this matter, Professor treated Mo You as if she doesn’t exist, no matter what she does, the Professor will not reproach, or even pay attention to her. At first she thought it was the Professor’s preference for her own daughter, but slowly, she had a strange thought in her mind, the Professor seemed to be cautious of something ……
She felt her heart beating faster and faster and faster.
Suddenly, a sharp scraping sound woke her up.
“Drive slower.” She said to the person in the driver’s seat.
She opened her eyes and the teenager in the seat next to her was still unconscious.
What kind of dream was he having at this very moment?
She thought, the world knew that she was Mo ShiXin’s favorite adopted daughter, an unearthly genius doctor, but the truth was really ironic.
She looked at the sleeping teenager beside her and felt a little envious of his amnesia.
