Chapter 6-Girls’ Talk <Exchange of Witches>.

Tanaka/Beni Pov

“Tanaka-san, how are you adjusting to school?”

“There are still many things I don’t understand, but it’s fun. I’m a little nervous being in a co-ed school with a lot of boys.”

I answered Saito-san’s question with a smile. I guess it’s thanks to Shinya and Saito-san that I didn’t feel much uneasy despite being in an unfamiliar school. I can’t thank the two of them enough.

I was wary of Saito-san at first because I had never really interacted with her before, but after talking to her more, I found her to be a very nice person. She would casually reach out to me when I was in trouble, and thanks to her introducing me to her friends, I haven’t had any problems so far.

We talked about popular dramas for a while, so we got excited. I’m glad my sister told me to study up on these topics.

“By the way, did Shinya bother you yesterday?”

“No, I had a nice talk with him.”

“Really? He seems decent at first glance, but he often says strange stuff with a weird vibe, are you really fine?”

I think the weird thing she was referring to was the chuuni conversation between me and Shinya yesterday. I’m sorry, but I love that kind of conversation… She called it a weird conversation, but I didn’t feel uncomfortable because I could tell she was concerned about me. If it’s not a chosen one like me or Shinya, I know that that kind of interaction would be painful.

By the way, yesterday was really fun. We hadn’t seen each other in a long time, but I guess I really like spending time with him. When I remember what we did yesterday, I feel like I’m on fire.

“Yes, he’s… a bit strange in some ways, but I really enjoyed our conversation.”

“Yeah, it’s… surprising. Tanaka-san is okay with that kind of stuff.”

“Well, I went to an all-girls school, so I had friends who liked that kind of thing.”

Of course, I was the one who liked that kind of thing, but I’m not gonna tell her that. I’ll just say that it’s my friend’s story. But I wonder if Shinya and Saito-san are really just childhood friends. In manga and novels, one of them might actually like the other. She’s been talking about Shinya for a while now…

“Ahー I see, I heard that there are quite a few strange people in an all-girls school. He recommended a lot of things to me, but I couldn’t really get into them. Well, I got hooked on something entirely different instead… But I’m relieved to hear that Tanaka-san is not prejudiced against such things… Can you believe it? That guy used to wear a bandage or an eye patch even though he wasn’t injured.”

“I agree, bandages and eye patches are cool, I’d like to wear one.”

“Eh…?”

“Eh…?”

I wonder if I said something funny, Saitou-san made a face as if she had been hit by a peashooter. She paused and thought for a moment, but soon returned to smiling.

“You don’t have to worry about Shinya. He won’t dress like that anymore.”

“I agree, he’s dressed normally.”

Apparently, she seemed to think I was concerned about Shinya’s appearance. After sealing his power as a Black Dragon Knight, Shinya’s fashion becomes really normal.

I guess that kind of fashion is strange to the people around him. But I understand how he feels, putting a bandage or wearing an eye patch makes you more excited, doesn’t it? Though, my sister told me to stop doing it, I think it was pretty cool…

“Yes… he’s a bit weird, but he sticks to what he really likes, for better or worse he doesn’t deny what other people like either. Some people were saved by his attitude. That’s why I want that idiot to always be happy…”

Saito-san looked up at the sky as if she was biting on some bitter memory. There must have been something that happened between her and Shinya in the past that I wasn’t told about. For some reason, the thought of it made my heart hurt a little.

“He’s a very friendly guy. But when he starts to get along a bit better with someone, he tends to say strange things to them and make the other person withdraw from him. He would always say, This is me, including this. I have to live my life without being ashamed for the sake of the witch. …That’s why I’m glad Tanaka-san is willing to accept him.”

He didn’t laugh or get angry with me when I told him I was going to seal my chuunibyou in high school. He probably had a lot on his plate as well. Don’t worry, Saito-san, I would never back away from him either, but I’m sorry if his chuunibyou worsened as a result.

“So you two went to school together this morning, but how well did you two get along?”

Saito-san’s expression changed from worried into teasing when she asked me this question. 

“Eh… that’s…”

I wasn’t sure how I should answer her question. In order to explain that we were a fake couple, I would have to tell her my secret. However, if Saito-san liked Shinya, she might back off because I was dating him.

We are a fake couple and I don’t want to hurt her feelings with a misunderstanding, and I felt bad for her. So I decided to ask her.

“Saito-san, are you perhaps asking me that because you have feelings for Shinya-san?”

“Eh, that’s not it. Not really, it’s just that there was a time when he was really depressed because he was dumped by someone he used to like, so I want him to be happy.”

“Someone he used to like…”

As soon as I heard that, I felt a fuzzy feeling spreading in my chest. Is this a sign of my hidden power awakening?

“What kind of person did Shinya-san used to love?”

“That’s…”

Saito-san’s words were interrupted by Shinya and a group of people clad in black who suddenly came running towards us. What’s with that group? It reminds me of the witch rally we used to hold at my old school.
